HI Gang!
I have been watching the news, and there has been nothing about the 2nd remaining poor soul missing off Rattlesnake Island. Has his body been recovered yet? My prayers go out to him and the other poor soul. May they Rest in Peace!

I had the opportunity to speak to Marine patrol on this issue earlier today. They have not found the gentlemen lost off Rattlesnake. They had dogs on the water yesterday and took GPS readings of the area that the dogs alerted on. They were headed back out to dive those coordinates today.

I never knew dogs could alert on a body underwater... that's amazing! My brother in law handles a "fire scene" dog for the Mass State Fire Marshals Office... and the dog is unbelievable... but underwater...wow.

It must be awful for the family, the waiting to be able to have a proper funeral... very sad.

I was surprised to hear that dogs could be effective on the water as well. The officer said they would leave the spot the dogs alerted on and then come back later and the dogs would actually alert on the same spot. Pretty incredible...

Marine Patrol left the area a little while ago and the balls marking the location are now gone. I hope that’s a sign that they found him.

AP reports the active search has been suspended and that F&G and MP will keep an eye out for Mr. Surette's body during normal patrols of the area.

Yes, dogs have the ability to locate cadavers underwater, I have seen them used multiple times with some success.

CJS - does this mean there are no accidents after Labor Day?
The driver doing the passing who caused this accident is from Mereidth. Last I heard Meredith was not "Out of State".

Very sad indeed.

I read another story some months ago that I found truly amazing regarding cadaver sniffing dogs.

A dog was used for part of a search for a missing Marine Corps pilot who crashed into Flathead Lake in 1960. Apparently the dog 'alerted' over the crash site in 275 feet of water 46 years later. Below are a couple of links to news stories about the search and recovery.
