We are completing the renovation of your cottage and we would like to get cable. What cable company supplies Alton with service and and issues we should be aware of?

it is Metrocast, and I have never had problems. I have the extended basic and my internet...not digital...there are a thread or two about digital service with Metrocast that should be searchable.

I signed up for Metrocast two years ago. The only problem I've had occured two months ago when my Internet went out. It was on a weekend, and I called technical support around 9:30 Saturday evening. Took 28 minutes to get someone, and they reported a region-wide, multiple-state outage that they were aware of and were working on. It was repaired by the time I got up the next morning.

I know they allow this in New Durham. I assume Alton would be the same.

We have Metrocast cable service at Sandy Point and we also shut it down for the season and then can call in the spring to re-activate. They have an 800# so we can call toll free from NJ to give them the new start-up date each year. I don't believe there is a service charge for this. Also, for phones, Union Telecommunications lets you shut down service for the winter but charges 1/2 the normal flat rate to keep your number in your name.

There is a charge to turn service off ($5) but not to turn it on (or vice versa) |
