Default Posting of Private Roads in Moultonborough?

Can someone help explain the process of road postings in the Town of Moultonborough for private roads. I have heard differing points of view.

Therefore.....

When Moultonborough posts their roads does it affect even private roads?

When do they typically do it?

I have heard that it is for all vehicles over 10,000 lbs, true?

Any help demystifying this subject would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Newbie

They don't post private roads, newbie. There is usually a sign at the end of each road telling you what the weight ban is. Towns post their roads and the state posts their's. Many of them are going into effect at this time.

Exclamation To Post or Not Post, That is the Question

Newbie,

You should have been at the town meeting this past Saturday. The question of Posting Town Roads came up in the discussion of rebuilding the road up to the bottling plant. There is no clear cut answer as to how roads are posted by the town. The question that was asked; after spending close to a million dollars to rebuild, $392,000 from the Citizens of Moultonborough, the road could the Town post load limit signs during "MUD SEASON" to control the weight of the trucks carrying water down from the bottling plant. No one from the Selectmen to the town attorney would offer a definitive opinion on the matter. It would seem if it is a “TOWN ROAD” then the “TOWN” should be able to control any type of traffic that operates on this road?

Hi George,

The RSA is pretty clear on the Town's ability to post its Class IV, V and VI roadways if conditions are warranted.

Anyway, here is the applicable RSA if you wanted to peruse it.

Out of curiosity, what is the classification of the road in question?
