Reminder - the Sno-Streakers Chicken BBQ is this Saturday October 25 at Oak Hill Golf Course. It starts at 6:00 (this was inadvertently left off of the original newsletter e-mail.) Hope to see you there.
Sue Magnuson Sno-Streakers, Inc. PO Box 780 Meredith, NH 03253 We began trail work on Sunday September 28th and will be continuing it every Sunday until the snow flies or until we are done. If you can help us out any Sunday (or many!), we would appreciate any help you can give us. Please meet at the Meredith McDonald’s at 8:00 AM. If you have any appropriate tools, such as chain saws, hatchets, etc., please bring them along. It would be great to see some new faces helping out this year. Last year, we had a very good group of people helping out with several new people joining us. Remember, we are working on the trails that YOU enjoy riding on. PLEASE come out and help at least once. We all like to ride and should be willing to help make the trails the best they can be. We have a couple of bigger projects to do to enable our groomer and drag to get through. We have been approved for some grant money for some fall projects. More information to follow. If you have any questions, please call Hank at 279-8629. |

PO BOX 780 MEREDITH, NH 03253 October 25, 2008 meeting: We had a pretty good turn-out for our fall Chicken barbeque/monthly meeting (about 30 people). A huge thanks to Gus and Barb Jenkins for once again hosting the event at Oak Hill Golf Course. Also, thanks to Tom Joslin for cooking the chicken – it was excellent. Everyone had a great time and left there stuffed! IMPORTANT: We have begun our weekly trail cutting and improvements work on Sundays. We have had pretty poor turn outs for the first few weeks (3 people each week). This will make it virtually impossible for us to do all of the trail work that will need to be done before the snow flies. We really need more members to help out. We meet at the Meredith McDonalds at 8:00 am each Sunday morning. If you have any appropriate tools, such as chain saws, brush cutters, etc., please bring them along. It would be great to see some new faces helping out this year. Last year, we had a good group of people helping out with several new people. Remember, we are working on the trails YOU enjoy riding on. PLEASE come out and help at least once. We all like to ride and should be willing to help make the trails the best they can be. If you are not willing to help out, you shouldn’t complain about trail conditions. The various clubs in Belknap County will be doing a County-wide trail map which will show all of each club’s trails. The printing of the maps will be funded by business ads which will be placed on the map. Each club is responsible to sell 17 of these ads. We currently have 12 ads sold. If anyone is interested in putting an ad on the map or knows of someone who would be interested, please contact Todd Andrews at 1toddco@msn.com. The annual Trail Masters meeting will be held on November 22nd this year at Plymouth State University. If anyone is interested in becoming certified to run our groomer, please let Hank Denison know at 279-8629. We have one more opening for the training. Reminder, we have the Super Raffle tickets available. They are $2.00 each or 3 for $5.00. The prizes this year are a 2009 Arctic Cat Crossfire R8LE, a Blizzard Aluminum Trailer w/sled dock cover, a $1,000.00 gas card from Irving Oil Company, and a $500.00 gas card from Irving Oil Company. (Winner will select the prize of their choice in the order drawn from those remaining). If you are interested in any raffle tickets, please include a note along with your membership form and a check made out to Sno-Streakers, and I will send them to you. Our annual Christmas party will be held on Saturday, December 13th at Oak Hill Golf Course. All members are welcome and encouraged to attend. It will begin at 6:00 pm. This will be a potluck dinner, so please bring an appetizer, main dish, side dish or dessert, and BYOB. There will also be a Yankee Swap, so each person should bring a wrapped gift. All members are welcome and encouraged to attend. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to e-mail me at suemagnuson@metrocast.net or call me at 387-1919. We really hope to see another good turn-out. It’s a great time to meet some new people and maybe find some new riding partners. Our next meeting is Wednesday, November 12th at the Meredith Center Fire Station at 7:00 pm. All members are welcome to attend. THINK SNOW !!!!! |

Sunday 11-9 five of us did trail work - and got a good amount done. It is actually good for riders to see the trails in the Fall. The work is not too hard, you do what you can do (in good company) and make our trails better. This Sunday morning (11-16) we are building a bridge on 104. It will go over the water hazard we struggled with last winter (on the JacksonStar end). Please join us, and help if you can. We meet at 8:30 AM at McDonald's every Sunday till the trails are ready.

We have had a couple of "one inch" snow storms. Trail work continues every Sunday - meeting at McDonalds at 8AM. There are some important things to be done before the trails can open. Please come and and help (or come and tell us jokes while we work) or whatever you can contribute to the cause.

Today we got about four inches of powder on top of the inch of ice we got last Friday. The forcast is for some more powder on Friday. Until the powder starts to adhere to the ice under it there is no traction and the wind will blow it off open areas. The trails and tracks, are not open yet and the lakes and ponds are not frozen. (But it is snowing

Grooming can begin as soon as the State Trails Bureau and the Hobo RailRoad Company, both, give the OK. I believe the official date is Jan. 6th but some years, with good early snow, they agree to open the tracks to snowmobiles earlier. Once that permission is granted, we have to dig in the bridge covers before grooming.(Help will be needed) Until the Lakes in our network of trails freeze and are safe, and the tracks are open we can not groom. If you are out riding please be aware and careful of unsafe waterways and branches and trees down from the recent high winds. The trails are not officially open. (But he loop around my barn looks like a concrete short track) Check back in for updates, I will post stuff as soon as I hear.

Hi all,
We went out for a ride today and the trails around Rt 106 in Laconia (Prison Loop/Woods/Tracks) are extremely thin. There are a number of exposed rocks and logs. In addition, washouts are numerous; we only got stuck temporarily in one of them. The trails are very icy, so studs are pretty much a must. The most entertaining part of the ride was when we found out that a few kids had gone down the trail 1/2 mile by Pedal Pushers in a Pontiac. Apparently, it is shown as a road on GPS and they blindly followed the GPS. They got to a washout and turned around. At that point, they could not get back up the hill. We went over to the barn to ask the snowcat to go pull them out; they were not thrilled (I would not have been either). ![]() Jetskier ![]() |

Hi everyone,
Hope everyone had a great holiday season and is ready for some great sledding! It is time to put the bridge deckings on the railroad bridges. We will be meeting on Saturday, Jan 3rd at 8:00 am at the Winona trestle bridge. If you can possibly give us a couple hours of help, it would be greatly appreciated. If we have a good turn out, we should be able to get everything on and ready for riding in a short period of time. If you have any tools such as cordless drills, hammers, etc that you think would be useful, please bring them. If you have any questions or need directions, please call Hank at 279-8629. Thank you, Sue Magnuson Sno-Streakers, Inc. PO Box 780 Meredith, NH 03253 |

We have gotten about 2 inches of sugar snow so far today with ice pellets falling as I write. I putted around on an old sled again today and it is obvious that the trail work done by our volunteers this Fall is going to make a noticable difference. We still need more snow coverage at this point but this is an encouraging start.

We took a ride last night - the groomers have been out and have done a great job with what snow we have. Trails still have some rocks poking up through the snow cover and the rails are exposed in some areas on the tracks. Snow in the forecast for tomorrow!

We rode the prison loop and the tracks up to Meredith this morning. The groomer was grooming the tracks up to about Thurstons Marine. There is a huge bump going past the Weirs on the trail; it will launch you if you take it too fast.
There is about 4" of snow on the base that we have. The trails are much better, but there are still some thin spots and you have to be careful on the tracks so as not to catch a ski. We also rode on Paugus bay. It is frozen with thick ice. Watch out for bubblers though. Jetskier ![]() |

We got about 4 to 5 inches of powder over the weekend. The groomers are out and doing a great job. The trail crossing Hatch Corner Rd (300) now has the gate open and is being groomed.
1-12-09 A Club Member E-Mailed me with this report - The trail from Wicwas to Winisquam is open and cleared from blowdowns and brush. However on my way from Wicwas to Pemigawasett the trail had a ribbon across it just 100 yards in on the trail from Wicwas. I drilled a hole and measured 14" on Wicwas! I will try to find out about the ribbon at the club meeting this Wednesday Jan 14th at 7:00PM at the Meredith Center Rd. Fire Station. Thanks for the report Bruce!! |

SNO-STREAKERS, INC.
PO BOX 780 MEREDITH, NH 03253 January 14, 2009 meeting: Present: Todd Andrews, Ben Quinn, Hank & Patty Denison, Dennis Finnerthy, Rhonda Henault, Jef Fagnant. Carl Smith, Tom Joslin, Gus Jenkins, , Sue Magnuson We hope that everyone is having a good snowmobiling season so far. We have been out grooming a few times, but with the light fluffy snow we have had, the trails are still a little sparse. We really need some good wet snow. The County maps are supposed to be ready on Tuesday Jan. 20th, so we should have them soon. Let me know if you would like one. They are going to be $5.00 each. NOTE: There has been a problem with snowmobiles going off the trail and onto the ball field in Meredith. The snow fence needs to be repaired due to some snowmobiles driving right through it. PLEASE make sure to stay on the trails as they are marked. We don’t want to lose the use of these trails! A great big thanks to all who came out to help with the bridge decks. We had a good turnout and that made the work go quickly. A big thanks to Norm McGuigan for the use of his tractor. That was such a big help. It was really great to see some new faces along with our “old” reliable regulars. THANKS ALL!!!!! Reminder - We have Super Raffle tickets for sale to benefit the NHSA and affiliated clubs. If anyone is interested in purchasing any tickets, please contact me at suemagnuson@metrocast.net as soon as possible. We need to have our money into the NHSA office soon, so there isn’t much time. Reminder, our club keeps half of all money we raise selling these tickets. Fundraisers: The fundraising calendars have been sent out to members, but if you would like to get some more to buy or sell, please let me know. Calendars are $5.00 each. For anyone who is not familiar with this fundraiser, calendars are printed with a monetary amount on each date. A winner is drawn for each date from all people who purchase a calendar. All winners’ names go back into the drawing, so you are eligible to win multiple times. Anyone who is interested in purchasing and/or selling calendars, please let me know via e-mail at suemagnuson@metrocast.net. Reminder, we will start drawing winners on Feb 1st, so please return your calendars soon. If anyone is able to volunteer for a couple hours to help with selling club memberships at Laconia (Meredith) Harley Davidson during Fishing Derby weekend (February 7 th & 8th), please let me know. They are very good about selling our club memberships throughout the season and this is a very busy time for them with registrations. They could really use our help. You can e-mail me at suemagnuson@metrocast.net or call me at 387-1919. NEXT MEETING: Wednesday, February 11th at 7:00 pm at the Meredith Center Fire Station. HOPE TO SEE ALL OF YOU SOON ON THE TRAILS ! THINK SNOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

We got about ten inches of powder this weekend and the riding is great! The trails are being groomed regularly (Thank you Groomers) and the signs are out on the trails to help newcomers (Thank You - Todd) Be careful on the edges of the woods trails. Because of the layers of powder in the woods it is pretty soft and deep if you get off the trail edge.

1-25-09 Great riding over the weekend - many miles put on with a group of 8 from Meredith. The Castle in the clouds and Mt. Shaw trails were heavily traveled and a bit thin in spots. Over all the riding is great and the groomers have done a really good job with the powder cover that we have. Reports of more snow Wednesday are welcome and just what we need.
1-26-09 The Wicwas to Pemigewasset trail is closed do to logging. It will be reopened as soon as operations are finished in that area, which should be soon. I will post as soon as I get word that it is open. |

www.Sno-Streakers.com (Meredith's Snowmobile Club)
1-29-09 We got about 10 inches of powder yesterday and the groomers are out packing it. The riding is really good but we need a wet snow to really "set up" on the trails to keep them from getting whipped up on the weekends. 1-30-09 I have received some E-Mails about the tracks being bumpy on the weekends. I assure you that our volunteer groomers are doing all they can but with the high volume of riders who converge on the Meredith area, the powder conditions and the fact that the drag can not fit between the rails to take out the bumps created by sleds - it gets bumpy. We will continue to do everything we can but need a wet snow to fill between the rails and freeze in. In the mean time if we all remember to go easy on the throttle when starting off we can prevent some of the moguls from forming in these high traffic areas. 1-31-09 I have been out riding (almost everyday) throughout the Lakes Region and the riding has been great - all the clubs deserve our support and thanks for all the hard work of volunteers. I have been riding in this area for over thirty years and remember when all the trails were bumpy, muddy and rocky - all the time. The sport has come a long way. If you like to ride consider volunteering some time to the club were you ride most. Most of the trail work is done in the Fall but contact your club, meet some nice people and help promote the sport we enjoy. February 2-1-09 The powder on the lakes is deep and is starting to sink the ice a bit in places. The ice is still thick enough in these locations but water seeps on top of it and makes a layer of slush under the snow cover. Some of it is pretty deep slush. Traveling in a packed trail helps because the snow (insulation) is packed down and the slush under it freezes more quickly. |

2-6-09 We did not receive any snow this week but cold temps and active grooming have gotten the trails set up in very good shape. The groomers have been pushing snow into high traffic intersections and things look good. This is The Rotary Fishing Derby weekend and the weather is supposed to be warm and really nice. My guess is that with the hundreds of people in Meredith and the warm temps we will experience Spring like trail conditions in certain areas of our trail system. Be careful because by Sunday we may have exposed rails and switches on the tracks in areas and possible some rocks poking up in the woods. Enjoy the weekend!!
2-8-09 Trail Hazard - It has been brought to my attention that the lower Prescott field is being riden on along the edge of the dirt road. The road in that section is actually the trail (between the tennis courts and the turn off behind the bowling lanes). The hazard is some partially buried bleachers that are on the field and difficult to see at night. We did not mark them because that was not intended to be trail. Please ride on the snow covered dirt road in that section and try to stay off the fields - Thank you! |

2-28-09 Sorry about the lack of reports this week, I've been away. We got about 11 inches of wet snow this week then rain and warm temps Friday. The groomers did a great job packing in the snow and the riding today was very good Spring riding all around the area. Trails vary from icy to wet with a few muddy spots depending on sun exposure. The lakes were good today but be aware of the openings around brooks, streams and docks - they are opening up. The rails are exposed in some areas on the tracks. Snow is promised for late tomorrow.

3-4-09 We got about 5 inches of powder on Monday. The groomers packed it in and we have had cold temps so the riding has been good this week. Wind blown and sunny areas will probably go away fast as temps. get warmer at the end of this week. The rails are exposed in a few spots especially South of us through the Weirs to South Down. The South Down Shores and Laconia Prison loops are in great shape and North up through Plymouth is also very good as of today.

3-6-09 Today was warm with some rain in the morning. This afternoon the trails were a bit soft with Spring conditions. We went out with a group and the best overall riding was on familiar parts of the lakes. The ice is still safe away from brooks, streams and aquatherms and the snow is consistant and fast. My best advise in these last few weeks is to enjoy the warm weather, slow down a little bit because it will get bumpy and rocky and be careful of changing ice conditions.

3-12-09 The good news- the trails are holding up and grooming continues.
The bad news - The RailRoad tracks close Monday the 16th. We will need help getting the bridge covers off the tracks. This will be done on Saturday morning the 21st. We usually meet at 8AM at the Winona Road Trestle. I will update if that changes. |

Rode from Meredith to Ashland and over to trail 24 towards Newfound lake
RR track are in pretty good shape as soon as you get past the eastern edge of Waukewan. Rails are fully exposed there. It has been a bad area all year as the wind seemed to blow the snow off of that spot all year. After that, the RR tracks are pretty good up until Ashland. After Ashland, it doesn't look like any grooming took place since last weekend. There are a few icy spots, and just a few bare spots but lots of bumps. Once you get into the mountain there is a lot of snow but it needs to be groomed. Maybe Bridgewater stopped grooming? |

SNO-STREAKERS, INC.
PO BOX 780 MEREDITH, NH 03253 March 11, 2009 meeting: Present: Todd Andrews, Ben Quinn, Jef Fagnant, Rhonda Henault, Gus Jenkins, Hank & Patty Denison, Sue Magnuson Hank would like to thank all members who helped out on the various aspects of our trail work this year. Special thanks to Jef and Norm for all the work they put in grooming the trails. The trails were great! The railroad tracks will close to snowmobile traffic on Monday March 16th. We will meet to take the bridge decks off at 8:00 am on Saturday, March 21st. If you can help out for a couple hours, please meet at the Winona Trestle. The more hands, the quicker the work will get done. The fences at the ball park will have to be taken down soon. As soon as Hank determines the date, an e-mail will be sent to let you know. If you don’t receive e-mails from me and would be able to help out, please call Hank at 279-8629 to let him know and he will let you know the details. We will be applying for Grant-in Aid money to do summer/fall trail work. It was decided that we need to concentrate on the area from Pleasant Street to Bonney Shores Road. Todd, Jef and Ben will evaluate exactly what needs to be done. If anyone has any ideas, please feel free to contact Todd at 1toddco@msn.com Please keep the date in mind: Our Spring meeting and Election of Officers will be held in May at Oak Hill Golf Course (date to be determined next month). This will be a potluck dinner. If anyone is interested in holding an office or being on the Board of Directors, please plan on attending. We will be looking for a volunteer to be our new Trailmaster, as Hank has stated that this will be his last year. Hank - thanks for all the years you coordinated our trail work and all the hard work you put into the club! NEXT MEETING: Wednesday, April 8th at 7:00 pm at the Meredith Center Fire Station. HOPE TO SEE ALL OF YOU IN MAY! |

Old Hubbard Rd,
Any idea what happened to the sno-streakers web site. It seems to be offline. I was looking as my son and I are interested in helping to do some trail work and I was looking to see when the work was starting. BG64 |

boat_guy64, I hear ya, seems they haven't upgraded their link yet. This happens sometimes early in the season, and usually by visiting the NHSA.com 's website you can get an updated link. However, I just tried it and got the same message. They got over three feet of snow in Denver and it is headed East, so E'em at suemagnuson@metrocast.net and wake them up! Any Club would be fortunate to have you ready to help them out! Keep up the great work and Happy trails to you and your's!
Terry

Many of the local high schools have community service requirements for students. My son is a freshman and has to do 5 hours of community service plus school based service.
Late this summer, his football team cleared a cross country path through the woods for the cross sountry team to complete their school based community service. They cut down trees (with some supervision) cut brush, dug out rocks, filled in holes and did pretty much what you would do to clean up a snowmobile path. He asked his advisor and they have approved work on snowmobile trails as community service. We'll be doing that this fall. (As soon as we see a Meredith Sno-streaker work party) With a little advertisement to some of the local schools, I wonder if we could get a legion of kids out helping on the trails. With some young muscle and some old brains ![]() |

Got this From Brendan Quinn this afternoon Hi We are experiencing difficulty with the web site host server. The club is still completely intact and doing trail work on Sunday mornings.. Meeting at McDonald's at 8am. Our current members have been getting newsletters through E-Mail to keep them up to date. The site should be back up soon. Thank you, Brendan Quinn VP Sno-Streakers |
