Default Thought I've everything....

I couldn't believe my eyes...there was a guy on a dock in Winter Harbor driving golf balls into the lake!! This went on for 20 minutes. I can now comfortably say: "I've seen it all!!"

If you saw him jump into the lake with his waterproof shag-bag, then you can say you saw it all. Unbelievable!

when I was a kid, my friends and I used to do it all the time. His dad would give him the used golf balls, and he would drive them into the lake. My job was to shag them. On summer we must have pulled over 300 balls out of the lake. Now, 20 years later, my kids are snorkeling, and still find the golf balls. Those used golf balls have now provided fun for 2 generations

Default Get this...

For the last two years, the people staying in the property next to ours in August have made this strange noise -- starts early and goes on throughout the day. A series of loud PINGs! It drives you nuts after a while...and causes the dogs to bark a lot.

Anyway, I was doing a little dive along the shore at about 20 feet when when I came across a group of golf balls. And then more. It then occurred to me that the noise I was hearing was someone driving balls into the lake -- but the noise didn't sound like a driver (even the newer metal drivers).

Then, one day while working in the woods between the houses, I heard the noise and saw two guys hitting golf balls with ALUMINUM BASEBALL BATS. PING! PING! PING! Each followed by a splash way out where I was diving.

My daughter realized that they might be hitting a few bad shots and snorkeled over in the shallower area close to shore. She returned with 16 golf balls stuffed down her bathing suit.

I think that this is the same crew that spent two weeks firing a potatoe gun into the lake a few years ago.

Whatever blows your hair back, I guess...

Many people do this, and have been for many years (not me...I'm not a golfer)

I have a neighbor who does it all the time. But, IMHO, he does it the right way. Only when no one/boats are in range, and more importantly, he purchased golf balls that float. His kids enjoy the challenge of swimming out to retrieve them when he's done.

I believe this topic was discussed awhile ago in this forum and someone posted a link to a place where the floating golf balls could be purchased.

Default Advent Cove too

They were doing the same thing in Advent Cove too. Hitting them at their raft (tough target @ 60 yards +/-). We used to do it was kids, retrieving them was the best.

Default I figured it out

I finally realized why these guys are doing this....how many times do you go to the driving range only to hit the links and plop, right into the water hazard. These guys are doing reverse psychology, plop them into the water while practicing, never see the water hazard during your game.

Exclamation Now my small boat is invisible when they're stopped!

Yeah, yeah, I've seen duffers driving out into the lake. It's the good golfers you don't want. In parts of the lake, (like Winter Harbor) you can drive a golf ball into 40-feet of water. Irretrievable -- and it's against the law to put plastic into the waters. (Not that anybody worries about NH law).

HOWEVER, Today, at 6:15PM:

Description: White, ~25-foot "performance boat", very tapered, very pointed bow, pointed red and yellow stripes taper wider to a scroll "graphic" near the stern.

They stop in front of me, and the couple shortly proceed to "try to make a baby" on the engine cover!

Now I'VE seen everything -- I hope.
