Although this winter's grip on us all is giving way, we all enjoy so the four seasons here!... Great to see that Mother Nature's transmission still works, and when she grabs another gear, it is time for us to get ready and also enjoy another Boating season here. May she continue to and bring it on, May she also let us enjoy our very beloved and all four seasons here! She can be very tough on us, at times, as we have and will learn. Remember that she is a part of that very refreshing summer breeze that we so enjoy here also! Stay alert, and give her due possess...

Above all, stay safe Y'All,
Terry

It is againest the law to be fishing out of a boat on Winnie until April 1st. Trust me, I know this to be a fact.

I saw more than just a few snowmobiles out on the lake this past weekend.

Nuts?

Default Alton Scenic View Saturday night.

While waiting for the super moon to rise, we had the pleasure of watching a single snowmobiler out around Little Mark, going like a bat out of Hades, and headed to the middle of the bay and lost sight of him down near Echo Point. Not sure I would want to be alone at this time of year and that late in the day.

Wherever you are, you can view the progress of the ice out of Wolfeboro Bay from the Wolfeboro Bay Cam here:http://wolfeborocam.com/wolfecam.php

April 1st is the start of the Salmon season, and judging by the amount of open water, it isn't looking too good. Salmon show first in Alton, but they don't show until the ice is out about to the Bandstand. As of today (ignore the stuffed owl) the ice is barely past the Downings Landing dock:

WMUR's weather page says temps will stay cold for the rest of this week, so not much melting in the offing. It may be a late-starting season this year, asnd it will be even later in Wolfeboro.

The Salmon come in at Wolfeboro about two weeks after they show at Alton. Rainbows can be had in Wolfeboro before the salmon show, though. In past years I have gone to the town docks when the ice was out about as far as it is now, and seen trout hitting small bugs hatching out on the surface right next to the edge of the ice.

Here's a crop from the web cam as of a few minutes ago:

I wouldn't be surprised if there were trout lurking along the edge of that ice line. Come April 1, we may find out if I am right.

What a change from last year! Doesn't look like Ice Out anytime soon.

We drove around the lake yesterday. Unfortunately we were on our way to several appointments so we didn't have time to stop and take pictures.

It felt a lot warmer than the weather folks had prepared me for, and the sun was strong.

Water was visible around most edges of the lake though the main ice pack is still solid and in one piece.

Around Alton, the Merrymeeting Marsh and River are completely open, with very little evidence of ice anywhere. This was not the case when we were there 2 weeks ago.

Water temp posted from Lakeport Dam still (surprisingly) shows the temp is still rising. Up to 36 yesterday.

In Alton, the water's out a bit further toward the Bandstand as of yesterday (Saturday). The salmon tend to show once the open water hits that bandstand. The weather was 30-ish and incredibly windy. No sign of fish yet. I took these shots down on the docks, cringing from the wind in my parka.

These are the docks we fish from. The water's open nicely, but no fish yet.

I was in Wolfeboro this afternoon, the bay looked pretty much wide open to me as I drove thru. Nothing compared to this time last year, however.

Just wondering ...

Has the lake ever start to thaw out like this, only to refreeze again during a subsequent deep freeze?

Wow, looking at those pictures, it must have been some windy for that relatively puny patch of open water to be whipped up like that.

Default wolfeboro bay...

Someone mentioned waiting for the Super Moon to rise... any pictures? It rose like a huge orange pumpkin here in Boston. Love the Winnipesaukee and Wentworth cams. I'm already looking forward to August and my annual trip to Wolfeboro!
