Does anyone know a reputable marina that accepts boats to sell on consignment and what the going percentage that they keep from the sale??
Thinking of selling my 2006 20'8'' Larson Bow Rider. Any tips are greatly appreciated.... PS What does Parker Marine charge for a slip for the season?? |

I sold my boat through Meredith Marine 2 years ago and I was incredibly happy with them. It was a 2008 24 ft Crownline if that helps.
What impressed me about Meredith is that they didn't appear to prioritize selling their new boats over their brokered used boats. I noticed with a number of dealers they would always try and upsell people into a new boat. Unfortunately I forget what the percentage was but when I was shopping around everyone was going to charge me the same amount. Hope that helps! |

I've had good luck using Angler's Edge Marine. For a flat fee of $299 they listed my boat on all the online boat shopping websites.
You'd have to show the boat yourself, but this route should save a lot of money in the end. http://www.anglersedgemarine.com/Pag...Your-Boat.aspx |

Be sure to talk to multiple people to find a good dealer. Most consignments have mulitple costs:
Consignment fee (commission) about 10% to 15%. Storage fees (they charge you for storage while the boat is on their property) Gas (as they may take potential buyers out for ride on your boat, you pay the fuel bulls). Of course, your normal insurance. Some will allow you to sell your boat yourself and not owe the commission fee. Others want the fee if your boat sells, even if you sell it yourself. I had a boat for sale as well as purchased a consignment boat from one of the largest dealers on the lake last year. I was flabbergasted as I noted issues and the dealer kept saying "This is a consignment boat, so I can't help you there, if it was one of the boats we own, I could help you". As soon as this occured, I decided NOT to consign my boat with them. As a 'seller' I wouldn't want my boat sold in this way. In short, if you set a good fair price for your boat, it should sell. I sold mine on Craigs List within 1 month of listing it. I provided good pictures, a realistic and detailed description and was willing to take offers (which I did). In the end I sold my older boat for less than I asked, but in the end I saved a lot by not having to pay for commission, as well as storage, insurance, and additional fuel. Some dealers may have a better consignment agreement than others. Do your homework and visit and ask a LOT of questions! In the mean time, while your doing your homework, write it up, take some good pictures, and list it on Craigslist or other online sites. Good luck!

I bought a boat on EBay and I was extremely satisfied. I sold a boat on Criagslist and sold 4 days after the listing. If you want to sell fast, internet is the way to go.
One marina on the lake list boats on Craigslist and other internet sites. I notice his boats don't stick around long.

I sold a 20' Bayliner on consignment with Fays several years back. They got a good price for it and managed things nicely. I was very pleased with the amount of time it took and the bottom line $$$ back to me.
After selling the Bayliner, I then bought a new 22' Chaparral from Fays. Oddly when I decided I needed a bigger boat to live on an island, Fays seemed pretty cool about reselling it for me (probably because I bought a SeaRay). I put it on Craigslist at a pretty fair price (under NADA). I did manage to sell it after about 6 weeks. On craigslist you'll get a bunch of responses from people willing to pay about 1/2 the price you ask and a bunch of traffic from boat resellers looking to list your boat. |

I've been at Parkers for 7years, l am very satisfied. I believe they are the cheapest on the lake. (boat size limited by the bridge) I have a 22' Century Coronado, I fit under the bridge fine.

Walley's Marine in Moultonbourogh always has boats forsale by the road. I wouldn't bring my boat back there to get fixed, due to poor workmanship, but I may if I were only selling it, but I doubt that too.

We sold on consignment through Thurston's right about this time last year. We priced it reasonably and it sold within a week or so, and we were very pleased with how things were handled. We were told that mid-June to mid-July is peak selling time.

Meredith marine sold my 18' bowrider back a few years ago. Quick, reliable, and mailed me my check asap.
