Chipmunks On Islands

My mom asked if I would pose this question to the knowledgeable people on the Forum:

How did the chipmunks get onto the islands?
They hibernate during the winter months, so coming over on the ice doesn't make sense.
Any ideas?

Chipmunks end their hibernation in March, ice out is usually mid April.

How do you get to the island ? Well same thing for chippies and squirrels ! Outrageous you say, here I have proof

First the skiing squirrel.

And then it's natural to ask, who's driving the boat. Well it's a bit blurry but I believe it's a chipmunk. That's my story and I'm sticking to it !

Of course that's how it's done today. Back in the 60's it was quite a race btw the chippies and squirrels. What, again you doubt

What a foolish question! Everybody knows Chipmunks get their boating certificate and drive gas-guzzling off-shore racers.

thanks Bear Islander...ya know, ya learn something every day. I thought that maybe they ran out to the islands 'cause they know where the rocks are

. Then again, the water isn't very deep...it's not even up to the chest on seagulls!
