Somebody clarify---I thought registered moorings had to have an owner occuoancy i.r. MP will check bow number/registration to be sure it matches. OP doesn't say where. This may be different on other lakes where mooring rules are different. OP may need a slip or valet. Fay's and some other marinas have some transient moorings and campgrounds have mooring fields for their camp site renters.

Moorings can't be rented out (on lakes where a permit is required) as the waterbody is considered a public resource. This is referenced right on the (non-commercial mooring field) permit application. That doesn't mean that an "under the table" arrangement couldn't possibly be reached with an individual lakefront owner, but that has its owns risks as Descant mentions above..

But as Tom C. Points out, there is direct verbiage, that it is not to be rented... or well basically used for profit...... if it is a non-commercial permit..... Now could you get a commercial permit for a lake side property? Don't know, or am I that interested in trying to look that up....

I clarified the rule with the girls at Marine Patrol a few years ago when my neighbor was renting her house on the lake and the Air Bnb renters put a boat on her mooring. They said it is OK if the mooring goes along with renting the house. You can't just rent a mooring by itself.

I originally secured a mooring at Lanes End in Melvin Village, Tuftonboro this season but when a slip opened up at the same marina I switched. I noticed the mooring stayed vacant all season and they are now taking reservations. Not sure if you're interested in this side of the lake but maybe an option for you.
