From: http://spaceweather.com/
An explosion on the sun yesterday (Aug. 16) hurled a coronal mass ejection (CME) toward Earth. The approaching cloud could spark a geomagnetic storm when it arrives, probably on August 18th. Sky watchers should be alert for auroras. If a storm erupts, the best displays will be at higher latitudes: e.g., Alaska, Canada, and Scandinavia. However, auroras could descend to lower latitudes, too, spreading across northern-tier US states from Maine to Washington and elsewhere.

Great "heads-up" for us heading up tomorrow. We'll keep an eye out. Thanks IG.
Now if everyone would assist by minimizing external lighting, that'd be great! |

We have had some pretty good auroras over the lake before so maybe we'll get lucky again. Thx for the notice. I'll be looking and will have the camera and tripod ready.

Not much luck aurora-wise tonight. Did see a few satellites and lingering Perseid meteorites. Should have checked w/Spaceweather.com beforehand ...
"WEAK IMPACT: A coronal mass ejection hit Earth today at approximately 1630 UT (12:30 EDT), but the impact was weak. It did not spark a geomagnetic storm. Unless circumstances change, auroras are unlikely tonight. "
