best bar/sports bar around
I'm coming up to the lake this weekend for 4 or 5 days with some friends and we don't have cable to stay up to date on the nba finals and baseball season. Whats the best sports bar (is there one?) around or any other kind of bar good for college-age kids to hang out at?

Be very careful around the Lake - if you are out past dusk - you are presumed to be drinking - so take a good piece of advice - if you guys are driving - use a designated driver - stop completely at every stop sign - count to three - use turn signals 100 feet in advance of your turn - and god forbid do not cross the center yellow or side white line (even if one does not exist) - and finally - 40 mph means 40 mph - not 42 or 43. Other than that welcome to the Lakes Region and enjoy yourself.

God Bless the Holderness Police--I remember one summer I was speeding down Rt. 3 (unlike when I was "speeding" on the lake last summer) and saw him too late. He was outside his car with a radar gun and looked at me, smiled, and gave the "slow down" sign. Edit: need to borrow a tap? Run down to UNH

The Antler
If your camp is in Meredith, why not go to the Broken Antler? It has a good bar crowd, nice TV's and foosball and darts. Plus their food is great, too.

Spoke
Broken Spoke is now open year-round, and they have several large TVs, as I recently heard from a friend. They have live entertainment on weekends, but at least it's another option!

Antler
BH - The Antler moved to Meredith a few years ago. They are on Main Street across from the Inn's lower parking lot.

Sports Bars
I agree Patricks Pub in Gilford is excellent (the ribs are fantastic) as is T-Bones in Laconia, good wings and nice beer selection.

The Lobster Pound at Weirs Beach in Laconia on Rte 3 had a bar and TV as I recall. It is near to the water too. Where will you be staying as you do not want to drink and have to drive etc? Maybe you will have a designated driver.

Bucky's
Until I find the 50's something babe folks are talking about at Bucky's my favorite is a toss up between T'bones and Black Cat in Laconia.

Unless you want to drive 30 miles you might want to narrow down where at the lake you will be staying.

try this
There is a store right in Meredith called "Case and Keg". Its right off the main road almost across from the Meredith town docks. Never bought a keg there, but I imagine you can!

The last time we tried they would not sell a keg to anyone with an out of state ID, regardless of how much cash you were willing to leave for a deposit. It was not an age thing either as neither of us were under 35.

Keep us informed "The Mad Hatter". We want all to stay safe while enjoying our wonderful lake. If you are not able to get a keg, then choose a designated driver each night so that we don't have another awful accident where young people die on the roads here. We have had several this year and it really is a downer. Hope all of you have a great time.

There are probably plenty of places near the lake, or on your way to the lake that would sell you a keg. Renting a tap might be troublesome, as they are expensive (for the store renting the tap). If you have your own tap, you should have no problem buying a keg.

If you call ahead of time to place your order, Market Basket can help you with you keg. They used to supply with a tap as well, but you may want to verify that when you call. They have a location in Tilton at exit 20, unless you are going to the Alton side of the lake it will be on your way. Also a location in Concord on Fort Eddy Road if you are going the other way.

The best places to watch a game....
1. Lobster Pound! Big screen tv's, drink specials, and some pretty rabid sports fans! My fave place for a big game! oh ya they have tv's on the outside roof deck too! 2. Crazy Gringo! Great bar, good crew 3 tv's... 3. Tower Hill Tavern! Summer only... great bar good tv's! Tim... now I know why the street was dug up! Lots of music in the Weirs this summer! Hatter.... the Bars CANNOT sell you any kegs for any reason! it would be an instant liquor license fine! and not a small one! Try calling around to the different places... you could always just bring a keg up with you if you dont have any luck here Woodsy
