Politics and the Winnipesaukee Forum
This spring I asked everyone if I should put up a more general forum dedicated to non-lake issues like sports or politics. The response was an overwhelming NO. Visitors seemed to agree that there are many other forums to cover those subjects and this one should remain dedicated to the Lake.
As the election approaches and it commands more and more of our thoughts and attention it is very tempting to post comments related to the election here. However, this forum is still dedicated to the Lake and I ask you all to keep it that way. I'm still open to input and if most of you would like an area to discuss politics I can activate a separate forum for that purpose. Until then please post political comments on more appropriate forums. Now if someone posted a thread titled "Which candidate would be better for the Lakes Region" or something similar I probably would have to allow it if it was limited to that angle. Your comments are welcome. |

I still vote NO Politics
Thanks Don. We are so inundated with heated commentary related to each candidate in every other medium, it's nice to not get pummeled with any of it here. I still vote NO Politics on the Forum. Of course, we are having guests this weekend who are rabid in their support of their candidate ... I'll have to figure out a way to keep quiet!!

Please no politics
Thank you, there are so many other sources, please keep this to L W issues and I do not even think which candidate would be better for the lake is worth having as it would too quickly go off track.

Casting My Vote
I've got to admit, I got a weird feeling in my stomach when I saw the title of the thread - hoping we weren't going to delve into the political stuff here.
I, for one, am thankful that we're keeping this forum free of that stuff. There are plenty of other places to discuss such matters. Thanks Don! Last edited by JG1222; 09-23-2004 at 08:30 PM. |

I concur!
I agree wholeheartedly - politics belong elsewhere. PLEASE - keep this site devoted to Winni related topics ONLY.
Just my opinion. Others may vary.

VOTE 'NO' on politics forum
I must admit, I didn't open this thread until I saw that Pepper posted to it. Threads with a political title are like walking on thin ice. My vote Don, is NO on a forum for politics, religion and non-lake related topics.
Thanks Don.

I agree with keeping the forum to Winni related topics.
Like many people, I only have a limited amount of time to read the forum. The more non-Winni topics I have to wade through, the less time I have to spend on the lake related ones. Thanks Don. Rob |

Political Forum
Quote:
The words separate forum popped out at me. Could it be a completely separate link that goes elsewhere, so those of us not interested do not even have to glance at it? Personally I would not go there, but maybe some people here who love a good debate might. They might get their fill over there. If it can be completely away from here, maybe a poll might be in order. |

Vote
I vote NO for politics on the forum but vote YES on going to the polls and voting. I went to the town clerk today and voted absentee since I will not be here in Nov.

This is great! We are now discussing the politics of allowing politics into the discussions. Kind of like forming a committee to research the reason for so many committee meetings.

No here too. There are PLENTY of other outlets for political discussion on the web. What makes this one of the best forums is keeping it focused on the original intent, discussions about the NH Lakes Region.

Im Sorry
Just to clarify.... I am by no means into politics....I dont have the time or energy for great political debates...that was not the intent of the post. I simply stumbled upon the quotes while searching for something else and thought they were funny....as I explained to Don... after thinking about it I should not have posted. I'm Sorry.

I vote NO
Even though I seldom post here I do check in everyday.
I also vote no to the political discussions. I hope to make it back up there next summer. I haven't been able to go for the last few years now, and I really miss it. |

Looks like it's unanimous. If you want to see what happens, just go to one of the political chats (which I do occasionally) and you'll see that people become angry and hateful...they choose sides and hurl insults.
Every now and then,I notice that someone does sneak in a little political barb and that is certainly harmless, but ,other than that,I like the forum just the way it is. |

Not to worry
Lakegirl,
No worry, I have seen many items like the one you posted and found them funny. However they do tend to bring on the LOOOOONNNNNNGGGGGGG threads with politics. You had good intentions and that's all that matters. So girl. And yes Don I support the decision not to have politics on the forum. And I was one who argued "for" a section of the forum for it. But the users of the site decided to not have it so I go along with them. ToW |

As much of a political junkie as I am, I still prefer to separate my Lake and my politics. After all, I wouldn't want to tip my hand, express upopular views, and risk alienating my online Lake friends.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to get back to the online edition of the Union Leader. |

What if Bush said these things at NASCAR in Louden?
Missed LakeGirl's post. Have to agree with those that believe that the forum posts should have some relation to Lakes Region, the forum or forum folks. Don has been more than liberal in that area and allowed some deviation for just cause and interest.
Politics, unless directly related to the Lakes region has no place on this forum (IMHO). And even that should be limited. Make a separate political section of the forum if you wish but don't mix it in with the general forum. If what LakeGirl posted was said by Bush at the NASCAR races in Louden it might be suitable for this forum. Specially if he said that he would clean up the Milfoil and get rid of Zebra muscles in NH lakes. My guess is that she was sharing one of those joke type lists that some of us get via e-mail (which may not have been flattering to a candidate). Don't worry LakeGirl, no one is pointing a finger at you. Don has to draw the line somewhere. Your post was not the first and won't be the last to be edited by Webmaster. Besides, politics are just plain WRONG. There should just be a KING. Vote for me to appoint myself KING. Imagine me, JOE KING....

Political discussion is best left for other places and not here.

Lake Girl -- I must be one of the few who got to read the list, and i must admit that I . Unfortunately, it was a political tone, not intended to be so by you, and I agree - No political stuff. But L. G., thanks anyway, cause at least two of us got a good laugh, maybe even three, as Don deleted it.

Kings or Queens

My avatar is that of a joker, like you would find in a deck of cards and is take off of my name Joe Kerr. It is not a jester like you would find in my King's court. I guess it is hard to tell the difference unless you read the file label I still think I would make a wonderful King. Think of all the tax money we'd save without all those bureaucrats fouling up the system. A good King or, in my case a benevolent dictator, might not be a bad idea. Heck for starters we'd save a bundle just in election and campaign costs. No chads, No long election speechs. No slick advertisements. A better world.
