seafood restaurant recommendation

Good Morning All

We have visitors up for the week from Virginia and I was asked where to go in the Lakes Region for some good sea food. Can you all share your thoughts and experiences with me on the local area?

I recommend Kevin's Cafe on Route 25 in Moultonboro. Not fancy, but great food. Also, the restaurant at the Naswa resort (not the beach bar, but the inside restaurant), also the Corner House Inn in Center Sandwich on Route 109.

The Lobster Connection near the bridge at Winnisquam has great seafood. It is very casual, outside seating, etc. but fresh fish from Maine everyday!!

With out a doubt... Sandys Point in Alton Bay... by boat or by land..
best scallops, steamers, stuffed lobster around !!!

Would recommend Kevins for inside dining and Pops for the outside experince.

Both give you a true taste of New England seafood.

When we get in the mood, we have been getting lobsters at Market Basket. They will cook them for you and the price is running about $5.99/lb right now. You can pick up some corn and sides and have a full on seafood dinner with minimal fuss. The price is absolutely right.

All places mentioned above are good with the exception of Sandy Point. Sorry, but Sandy Point is mediocre.

I would recommend Johnson's in New Durham or Makris in Concord for seafood.

The Lyon's Den has the best crab cakes!

I have to agree with jack1706. Not the classiest place but Sandy Point is worth trying. Very consistant. Great fried clams.

It use to be hot but since they installed central air, the place is coool.

Ignore the naysaysers about Sandy Point. It is just old fashioned, but the food is really quite good.

Great place...great people...GREAT FOOD! We'll be there tonight for the AYCE fried clams....though it's hard to make it through the first serving!

It's part of the Weathervane chain (which is local to the northeast), and it's right int he hear of the Weirs.
Service is excellent and the food is really quite good.
Sawyer's is also a good choice in Gilford.

Thanks everyone for all of your suggestions so far..You all have been very helpful
But I have to say that last night we went over to the town docks in Meredith for dinner and the experience was not the greatest .. I hate to complain but the food was cold,some of the order was incorrect our waitress was a bit overwhelmed and forgot about us for a long while.. Now if had been really busy I could understand the lack of attention but the restaurant was actually rather quiet..
The waitress apologized and was gracious but really the food and service was sub par..Perhaps we hit it on the wrong day not sure but i ,,,just our experience ..
Now thanks to you all we have other places to try out

I think that going to eat at the Town Docks in Meredith is a bit of a hit or miss situation. Sometimes it is good and sometimes it is OK. Last Friday a friend of mine and myself took my Seadoo from Green's Basin to the Town Docks for lunch. The place was packed. We had vege burger's and drinks. The meals and the drinks were fabulous. It was a good lunch and a great day out on the lake.

I know "lakes region" was specified in the original post, but if there was a day where the weather wasn't fabulous, I'd make the trek to Brown's. That's if you're looking for lobster. Bring a tablecloth, some wine, crackers and cheese and have a party without the mess!

I also LOVE the suggestion of letting Market Basket cook the lobsters, if that's convenient. Nothing like getting nice 'n' messy on your own porch or deck or kitchen overlooking the lake!

We have been going to Sandy Point for around 15 years. The atmosphere is not extravagant; no table cloths just down to earth, "New Englandy". But the food is always consistent. True, the portion size has gotten smaller over the years but that is true everywhere. It is an excellent value. For example, if you order the large portion of sea scallops you receive about a pound of them as well as dinner rolls and a choice of two sides (I usually get the salad and baked potato as the sides). All this for about $22; from memory and their website. The dinner rolls are from the Multigrain Bakery in Lawrence, MA and are far better than typical restaurant rolls. The chowder is great. The waitstaff is very experienced and friendly. We were there during a rainy day during this past bike week when the restaurant lost power. There was a Honda generator in the parking lot keeping things going and none of the staff missed a beat. Again, a great value. Reservations are recommended.

Market Basket has Lobsters for $4.99/lb, grab some steamers, mussels and corn and you have an old fashioned clambake on the cheap.....

Hats of to Kevin's, consistant quality time and again...but in a different area of the lake than the others I will name.

Pops - I love you - great rings. Not cheap, but the quantity is the reason. Extra tarter for my whole bellies please.....

Sandy Point - if you dont mind the outdated decor the food rocks. It is a tad expensive, though I have not been since I last took my parents - I equate this to the Continental on Rt1 in Saugus if you know what I mean.

And I'll be the 1st to say it - the Lobster Pound is more or less on point. Though we gobble down appetizers at the bar more often than not the times we have eaten on the outside deck (unfortunately we have had the table next to the entrance more than once) have been fine. Not super-fine dining, and not perfect, but there is really no good sit down equivalent in the area. And if you sit further down the deck you get a view of the lake instead of the Volcano across the street.

Just roll the dice, you won't go too wrong whatever you decide.
