We received notice from the State that they closed the Castle trails yesterday and we are closing our gates today.
Hopefully next year we will get some payback. I tried every trick to get snow this year (did not put the blower on the tractor, did not repair the snowplow and broke my arm so I could not sled) and nothing helped! I will see some of you in a month or so when we take down snowfencing and signs. John |

...let's not go to the extreme of breaking an arm or any other bones to try to get snow so others may enjoy the trails
![]() Heal well, and bring on the boating.

My snowmobile ran twice this year. Once, in January, from the garage to the shed and this week, taking it back to the garage. Total mileage for the year, less than 2 tenths of a mile. Managed to avoid a F&G registration check both times.

I didn't bring my sled up this year because of the lack of snow and the fact it wouldn't run right while trying to get it on the trailer. Having not ridden this year drove me crazy and still is some. It was all washed and waxed with new "Dooly" dual carbide runners.
I was checked by F&G five times in a four day span. I was checked three times on the Friday before the derby alone. They actually took my registration slips to inspect and match up to the atvs. They have never done that before. As an LEO, I like chatting with those guys. One of them told me that they cite for no vehicle registration and over fishing (too many traps) the most. I've never met one F&G officer that wasn't friendly. |

You could apply the same logic to cars, especially since it's fairly easy to switch plates. Would you like to be stopped weekly and required to produce your registration, just to 'check" that all is above board? Sure, officers could do it, I suppose. But very quickly there would be new laws that prevented them from being such an annoyance. |

I should have specified that it was different officers each time. They don't know if we were checked before or not. When I told them we had been checked already and the number of times, they just chuckled and apologized. We didn't mind one bit. Sometimes they can offer a fishing tip or two.

We just ended our vacation with a nice 128 mile ride.
![]() My wife managed to log just under 3500 miles on her new sled while I put on just under 3700 miles. We did over 1000 miles this week while on vacation. Considering the lack of decent snow until 3 weeks ago we did pretty good. Many areas stopped grooming yesterday as snow depths have gotten to where drag damage and lack of lubrication for the groomer is a concern. ![]()
