Drove by today and it was gone, looked like a concrete forms company was at work and the sign said they were closed for rebuild, these people don't fool around. I really like eating there, anybody know what's up???

Looking forward to the reopening. I love the food and the people there but the building was hurting for sure.

Good news.."closed for remodeling" is often a euphemism for " closed forever."

You're right but not this time, they have been talking this up all summer, that building was at the end if its useful life to say the least and far beyond a rehab. Suppose to be attempting a quick turn. Hope they pave that mess of a parking lot .

They are going at it pretty fast- Donny Lemien dug the foundation yesterday and I see East Coast Foundation setting forms. The Cahoons are waiting to start framing.
I will try to get a timeline |

I would be more inclined to eat there, if it looked like a diner . Never met a diner I didn't like.

With the loss of Sam and Roise's, and Bay Gulls moving up the road.... And the fact that the Mug By the Bay, is going after a bit more posh crowd... A new facility could be just what the Diner needed.... especially if they keep the food and prices the same. I can't be the only boater, that isn't impressed with Mug by the Bay, and realizes that the walk up to Bay Gulls is just a bit to far to be practical, from the docks.
(Please not that I am not trying to be negative about Mug by the Bay, it is just not my kind of restaurant for breakfast, I much prefer a true short order Diner, the couple of times I have eaten there, the food has been fine)

It appears as thought they are rebuilding in the exact same footprint as the original.

The rafters are going on today. It will likely be weathertight in a week or less.

I wish I was a building designer that could have advised them about expanding the entry lobby. Too small, with the planned expanded square footage of the eating area. I hope they get a good payback for their efforts. They are an icon in the Center Harbor/Moultonborough area.

It kind of looks like a stretched out pre-fab trailer or something. They could of added a bit more style to the building if you ask me. Even though nobody asked me.
