I thought this event might be cancelled due to the lousy, windy and rainy weather (only in the 40s) but these runners are a hearty lot!

Default Dedicated and Gracious

these runners were absolutely unbelievable. For the spectators, the weather was lousy. For the runners, better than sunny, hot, and humid.

Alton Parks and Rec did our annual thing for an Aid Station out near Precious Gardens and Keewaydin Park, handing out water. Far too numerous to count were the "thank you's" for volunteering we received from so many of the runners. We could only say thanks to them, and thank them for running in our town.

To Keith Jordan and his staff, to the other volunteers, to the New Durham Lions club for their Friday night pasta feed, the Alton PD Sheriff's Dept State Police and Alton Fire Dept/EMTs, and most especially the runners, congratulations on a super race.

A side note: A lady came running up near the end of the first wave of runners on the outbound leg, looking like a very experienced runner and somewhat of an enigma as to why someone running as well as she would be so far behind other fine runners. We kidded her as she came up to the aid station asking "Did you oversleep?" She explained she drove up from CT this morning (race day) and realized she had only one shoe (yes she had two feet Mee-n-Mac), but had made the commitment to run and started off with sandals on. Got to where the race was to end, and there was a vendor selling running shoes. He sold her a pair and she was able to RUN the race. Dedication indeed.
