We are great fans of the V.K., and tonight’s prime rib dinner was exceptional. The food was very tasty, the “small” plate was generous, and the service was, as usual, professional. These ladies really hustle, yet are always pleasant and anxious to get the job done, and the cooks are pros, too. They had a good crowd tonight (not surprising), but we didn’t have to wait at 7:30. It’s a perfect family restaurant....neat, clean, efficient, great value. They close at 8, so please don’t show up at 7:50 and expect to make a night of it! 🙄

Totally agree. Few are "frequent flyers" there as well. Great food, great value. Excellent variety. The broiled haddock casserole on Saturday night is also a big favorite of ours. Bravo to a well run business !

Nothing wrong with breakfast/lunch and really good lobster rolls and world’s best home fries.

Been long-time VK customers and have tried most of the other restaurants around the lake. Many are good, some, very good but, if you want quality, great wholesome home-made food, and attentive quick & pleasant service, it's really hard to beat the all around consistency of the Village Kitchen
Seth the main chef is terrific; Marion, Sherry and Anna are quite simply the best wait staff in the lakes region. If you're looking for a good pizza, go to Elvios (glad they're back), but, if you seek a hearty breakfast, tender steak tips, prime rib that is to die for, fantastic club sandwiches and seafood (Haddock & Clams) that is super fresh.....go to the VK, you won't be disappointed.......we never have! Well done VK. |

Don't forget; this is one of those locations that will not accept Credit or Debit Cards. It's cash or check ONLY. There is an ATM on premises. Enjoy! |

On the way home from an outing today, we stopped at the V.K. and ordered prime rib takeout. It was ready in a flash and everything was perfect! We had a delicious, peaceful dinner on our porch, with almost no effort on my part. I recommend takeout under certain circumstances. Just a suggestion: it’s good to show your appreciation by leaving a tip...how much is up to you.

I thought tipping was for waiters who actually wait on you, not just take your order and hand you a box of food. This whole tip jar thing which is spreading across America is getting out of hand.

I tip a dollar or two per meal for takeout because the servers and others are still busting their butts for not a whole lotta cash, and it's tougher than ever for them and the restaurants to make ends meet. They're sure not eating a lot of prime rib...

But it seems to me that there is little or no real butt busting involved in handing you a box of food at the counter. If in fact servers are underpaid and cannot make ends meet they can take it up with the owner who can then pay them more and raise his prices, or they can quit. Capitalism 101 at work. Charity begins at home, not in restaurants. Should we also donate to seemingly down on their luck beggars? I think not, as that only masks and exacerbates the underlying problem.

My wife “lost” her favorite blue jean jacket about a month ago and pretty much forgot about finding it. We went out for breakfast yesterday and when we walked in the waitress that is there rushed over to my wife with her jacket. I believe in treating service workers well and I also believe it pays back in many ways! ![]() |

I am so glad that almost all of us think that tipping for takeout is the right thing to do. There doesn’t seem to be any real guideline...but it shouldn’t be a big deal for anyone to show appreciation for good service. We have gone to the V.K. for decades and have never had a “sour puss” serve us.

I almost never tip for takeout. In fact, I've posted on other threads about how much I hate the auto prompt tip line at places like Elvio's (I mistakenly pressed 10% while paying at a place last week and felt bilked by the way it appeared on screen).
Do you tip the person at the Kohl's return counter? Or if you have a great experience at the RMV? I know, fantasy, but you get the point. Where's the line, and should I put a tip jar on my classroom desk?! NB: I tip a minimum of 20%, even with not great service, when being waited on. For 'comfort' food, Village Kitchen is a no brainer. If I want to bring it up a notch, I would go to the Bob House. Can't beat Inn on Main for fine dining!

Too bad your aim was errant. I leave a good tip when it is earned, but not when it isn't; not when the establishment tries to shame me into tipping by leaving out a tip jar. Has nothing to do with being cheap; has everything to do with drawing the line against greed. What's next, a tip jar at health clubs, McDonalds, and your doctor's office? Give me a break!
