Open from Glendale to Welch this afternoon. A large ice sheet had moved south. Still ice from Locks to north Welch and still a lot of ice in Smith Cove. Tomorrow's wind should clear a lot out.

We just drove up from the seacoast to Gilford near Ames Farm. There is one large floe blocking Alton Bay by Loon Cove, but that should be gone in the next day or so. Beyond that all clear to Welch. I can see ice starting north of Welch across to Moultonborough. Pretty windy up here on the hill.

Today it remains clear from Belknap Point to Welch and as far as I could see to the southeast across the Broads. There is still ice to the north from Locks to north Welch and north from there. Expect large slabs to break off and start to move.
Smith Cove still has a large ice sheet blocking exit from Fay's. As usual, Jeff has the Eastern in the water and ready to go. Maybe Monday will be escape day. Driving down 11 to West Alton only blue water was in view. Alan |

Some of it's the lighting but it looks like there was a big change in an 8 hour period off of Weirs Beach today:

Ice on the move south between Belknap Point and Welch this afternoon.
This morning the ice in Smith Cove was up against Fay's end of the cove so the Eastern remained in jail. Then the wind really came up. Maybe tomorrow. Alan |

“It’s going to happen this week,” predicted Dave Emerson, owner of Emerson Aviation, who has been declaring the Lakes Region's harbinger of spring for 20 years.
Rains last week, coupled with strong winds on Saturday which gusted to around 30 mph created vast expanses of open water in Alton Bay and The Broads. From The Laconia Sun: https://www.laconiadailysun.com/news...1d35acae3.html |

Here's a piece of someone's dock floating by. A few ducks are along for the free ride

From our dock on Welch today ice in the distance to the north. Then a view from several camps north. The ice was well broken up. Later some large sheets came floating by our place.
And is was great to finally get the Eastern out of jail. Alan |

You're out very early. Feel free to use my docks and walk home if you need a protected spot.

As of this morning, the ice is completely gone from Mirror Lake, so Winni is not far behind.
Oh, and the loons have returned !! |
