Default Rte 11 (Mt Major Highway) Closure - Alton

Note that work has started on the culvert repair on Rte. 11 near Kewaydin Road. The entire road in that area will be closed October 6 though the 26th (more or less), and the NH DOT announcement, and detour route, can be seen here:

https://www.dot.nh.gov/news-and-medi...re-alton-44456

This route appears pretty circuitous, (perhaps to protect the neighborhoods?) but I think that you can probably get around the work area by using Rand Hill Road, depending on the exact locations of the road closure.

Thus, plan ahead, and allow for a lot of extra time on any east-west trip on Rts 11 going to, or coming from, Alton.

During previous road work/closures at this location, Rand Hill has always worked. If for some reason it isn't allowed it will be a major issue for those of us that travel 11 south on a daily basis.

Yes Rand Hill Rd the last time. I thought that they had replaced the entire culvert with a larger diameter the previous time. Is this a "make work" project?

Anyway, hopefully Rand Hill will be open. Maybe they want to get the large trucks to go the extra miles. If so, hard to enforce.

Default Detour signs in place

For those who travel Rand Hill Road from the West End of Rand Hill Road, there are "detour" signs at both ends of the road directing traffic who will continue on Rte 11 west bound and directing traffic eastbound on Rand Hill.

Then when you get to Lakewood, there are signs directing eastbound traffic back to route 11 eastbound. For those coming up Lakewood from route 11, there are signs for continuing westbound on Rand Hill towards Gilford and Laconia.

The long and short of it, the detour will be the same as was present when Rte 11 was first washed out.

This is much ado about nothing. (and I will have a ton of traffic going by my house on Rand Hill Rd for a couple of weeks )

Hope this clears things up.

Dave
