Default Last week in August

I doubt anybody has a crystal ball up there, but I'll ask anyway.
What it the typical temperature and weather like the last week in August at the Lake?
My wife and kids and I are considering coming up, but I don't want to be walking around in longjohns!
TIA

Default Last Week

Jersey Bob,

The last week in August is usually a good week, warm days and cool nights. As for Laborday weekend and the first week of September can be 50/50 some years. You should be able to find accomodations very easily. A lot of people leave the Lake the weekend starting the last week to get home and get the "kids" ready to go back to school. Come on up.

That is about the best it ever gets. Usually warm days, warm water and cool nights. Was last year, and the year before that, and the year beofre that... I used to always schedule my vacation for the last week in August and never had a bad one.

The average for August is 80 degrees according to weather.com. It is really a hard call to make, nights are generally cooler, but it could be warm that is the thing about NE weather, you can't quite tell what might happen weather wise. We have always taken the week after Labor Day off and it is not quite at hot as July but nice just the same.

Jeesh Bob,you only live a couple of hours from here.Do you think the weather is that much different than NJ.Actually,it is.We have clean air and clean beaches. Like Tricia said, the average hi temp for the end of August is about 78 and usually low humidity. It can be the best summer weather of the year. The only part that bothers me is I notice the sun going down a lot earlier than the first of July.Get up here and enjoy!

Default slight change in plans

Actually, since I just got back from a two week backpacking trip through the Rocky Mountains of New Mexico (Philmont Scout Ranch) with a group of Boy Scouts I've opted for a cruise.
This way I figure my wife can't make me do a lot of walking/driving/shopping/sightseeing etc.
Maybe next year.

Default Mt Washinton

A cruise on the Mt Washington sounds wonderfull!!Then a cruise through the Channel,Sally's gut,the Merideth,Wolfboro, and Center Harbor town docks.Yup,a cruise sounds like a great idea!!!Sorry for the sarcasim Bob,I've done plenty of cruises and they don't compare to a week on Winni.Get that "other" cruise out of the way and come here next year.

Default If only she'd make up her mind

Now she tells me she wants to go to the Dominican Republic since she's worried about the kids getting bored on a cruise. Maybe, I'll send her there and come up to the lake by myself!!!!

Default August Lake Weather???

I would hazard a guess.....and I'm no meteorologist (However I do know Willard Scott )....but I would estimate that Winni weather would be much safer than heading into the most active hurricane zone on earth in one of the most active hurricane months. The DR will surely be exciting when the winds pick up!!!! What fun!

Actually late in the season I find is the best time to go! I have not been able to rent out our place this year for the last week in August, I figure it's because more and more school systems are going back to class before Labor Day because of the possibility of snow days!

That said, Early September is GREAT! I got married on Labor Day Weekend 28 years ago this year and we spent the first part of our HoneyMoon on Winni! It was great!!!!

We are planning to go up again this year just after Labor Day to burn off 80 gallons of fuel.....anyone wanna help? LOL

I know the person who originally posted the question isn't coming up in late Aug or early Sept. but I have to agree with everyone who has posted so far, it's the best time of the year to be on the lake!!!

IMHO
