Some interesting Post Cards of NH and the Lake

Nice collection of postcards. I have many of these, but I am always on the look-out for ones I don't have.

The seller mislabelled one of his cards as the Brook and Bridge Inn instead of the Brook and BRIDLE Inn. It's right on the front of the card. Guess he isn't a local, huh?

As you can tell from photopost, I have, literally, hundreds of postcards of the lake. After I post them on photopost they just sit in a shoebox. If you see one of your "neighborhood" that you are interested in (and if I can actually find it!) I'm usually willing to let it go for a reasonable price. They look great matted and framed. McDude is right. RS Gal assembled a nice assortment of post cards in a frame and it is one of our favorite decorations at our place. The history of the lake is one of the best parts of the experience and one we need to keep alive. McDude is one of the masters of our generation bringing these post cards home and sharing them with us. Thanks to all who share these snap shots of "our" past. They are fascinating.

I keep my favorite postcards displayed in one of those wired photo holders. The rest are in a box, too.

It's funny, actually. We put on an additional bedroom on our house here in Jersey over ten years ago when my boys were quite small. Before the floor and carpet went in, it echoed so much that they took to calling it the Echo room which is funny since our house is on Echo Point. We still call it the Echo Room and the only decor in the room is pictures I took in NH, Cat's Meow renditions of buildings in NH, a map of Alton, those old decorative plates you can find on eBay, the Alton blanket that the town was selling many moons ago, and an old photo of the Weirs with the old Mount Washington at the dock. There is a type setters tray on the wall filled with little dust collectors that I used to buy when I was in high school at a store in Wolfeboro that is long gone (it was in the building with the water wheel). We even put in a green carpet since that is the color of the trim on our lake house. The furniture (except the sofa) came from Yield House in N. Conway and there is an old wicker trunk that I had in college that my mom bought in that wicker store near Funspot.

And all the postcards are on that wired "thing" on a table in the corner.

You got me there.

A few years back Mcdude gave this wonderful clock to my wife. It has hung in a prominent spot ever sense.

The clock has the added benefit of of making a loon call every hour. Well after hearing the loon call several hundred times the novelty started to wear off just a bit. I got in the habit if muttering "McDuuuuuuude" every time the thing went off. After a while it became part of the routine that was expected just as certain as the loon calls on the hour.

The clock and the reminder of McDude's generosity brings a smile to our face every hour on the hour. Thank God the clock is quite in the dark.
