Observations this weekend

Went to the Sandwich fair Sunday, parking seemed to go way up $10.00. Everything I've seen posted for the fair said adults $7.00 I believe, they were getting $10.00 at the gate.

Went to the Village Kitchen Saturday night...Good as usual. The only thing that's annoying there is the door to get in. It seems there's always a line waiting to be seated along with people trying to leave - traffic jam!

O.K. all my complaining is done for the week..

oh and I did get my Sausage with Pepper and Onions, good as usual.

We were at the fair this weekend too. I thought the $10 entry fee was a little steep for what's there. I've never seen so many food booths at a fair. There wasn't a lot other then food. We did watch the antique tractor pulls for awhile. That was really fascinating. It seemed that the older and rattier looking the tractor the better it pulled.

Also enjoyed the horse weight pulling. Boy those are spirited horses. Many times they took off before the load was attached. They also had the usual animal and craft barns which were interesting.

We parked up a mile and a half up the street and took the school bus to the fair. The price for parking here was right - free. On the way out there were was an accident and an emergency in the fairgrounds. Nothing was moving not even the school buses, so we hiked back to the lot. Great exercise.

The weather and foliage couldn't have been better. Great day.

You used to have to pay for parking in the main lot, now you don't and you pay $10 at the door - you still save $ unless you choose to pay someone else to park on their property.

I love the Sandwich Fair - between the food, the rides and games for the kids, the animals and all of the exhibits, it's always a great time for our family. My little one's school exhibit got several ribbons, and my teen got two ribbons for her photography entries so they were both happy campers. I love that it's well contained, and the Friday night $10 bracelet to ride all of the rides combined with no entry fee is a total bargain. It makes it ok to go back Sunday to see the parade (my kid is in the school band, gotta watch that), pay the higher prices and fight the ridiculous crowds. Friday night at the fair is practically peaceful in comparison, and definitely my favorite night to be there.

The leaves are phenomenal right now. This is the best time of the year, IMO.

We went last year and my favorite part was being able to groom one of the absolutely huge cattle. I was talking with the owner and reminissing about the times I used to spend on my uncle's farm in Vermont (Guernseys as I remember), calling the cows in from the pasture, setting up the milk machines, drinking that warm milk dipped from the bucket. The sandwich fair is the greatest. Glad you had a good time.

We went Saturday and had a grand time as always... got there about 9am (in time to get into the free parking) and didn't leave until 4pm... definitely got more than ten dollars worth of fun!!! Ran into the "Misty Blue" family and we watched the horse pull together... pretty amazing to see a single horse pull over 2,800lbs!

Visited all the animal sheds, including a visit with Tyler who at age 7 did a fine job guiding his pair of oxen through the obstacle course... the goats and alpaca's are always fun to play with too... The craft exhibits and school art/photo projects were really good this year, and we were there when a young exchange student won "best of show" for her drawing and she said it was one of the high points of her visit to America!

While I might agree that a big section of the grounds are dominated by "fair food", on a positive spin I guess it just makes getting your fill of fried dough that much more convenient!! This year we discovered the Comman Man food wagon off to the side of the main stage and got some really good burritos

Combined with the perfect weather, it was one of the best "fair days" that Miz PIG and I have had!

I have never seen it so crowded as I did on Sunday. We got there at 10:30 and thank god we did. The crowd swelled and swelled and swelled until we left at around 2pm

The parade was awesome and the little ones loved it. They loved the kiddie rides and they loved petting the cows. They had a great time on the pony rides. All in all a good time. The traffic headed towards the fair as we were leaving was incredible. So glad we chose to go over early.

My highlight was going on the "Typhoon" ride..... yikes

We also went Sunday. Got there about 8:45am. Got into the main lot on Bean Rd. We get there early so we can hit all the exhibit buildings before the crowd comes in. Went to mid-way early rather than after the parade. Worked out better, went for a few rides, had lunch in the Common Man area, watch Parade and then Horse show. Left at 2pm. Got home and went for a boat ride around Six Mile Island and right down middle of Broads. Grandson got a kick out seeing depth gauge hit 183'. Went around Rattlesanke Island and home. Color was incredible. Total day was awesome.

Oh I didn't realize the main lot was free now. It was full when I got there at 9:30 so that explains it. Oh well I parked at the school which goes to the PTO anyway.
