Default Wreaths Across America

The Laconia Rotary Club will be honoring veterans buried at Bayside Cemetery through the “Wreaths Across America” project next month. There is a front-page article about it in today’s Laconia Citizen. The Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion are assisting the Rotary Club and asking the public for help by sponsoring a wreath. There are 355 veterans buried at Bayside and a wreath will be laid on each grave. It should be quite an impressive sight to see that many wreaths dotting the cemetery by Christmas time. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, December 13. For more information, you may contact Warren Clement at 524-3322.

I am reminded of the Civil War veterans I have been researching recently – Brothers Joseph K. and Lyman P. Whittier, both killed on the battlefields of Cold Harbor, VA and Beaufort, SC. Brothers Winthrop H. and Charles W. Smith who survived to return home and raise families. Another brother George H. Smith was killed at Chancellorville. The wreaths are $15.00 each – a small price to pay for those who gave so much.

My husband's father is buried at Union cemetary in Laconia. Are they doing anything for the vets buried there?

Default Wreaths

The wreaths will be laid at the Veterans’ Cemetery in Boscawen and Bayside Cemetery only. However, wreaths will be made available to donors who wish to use them at other cemeteries. Bayside Cemetery was chosen because it has the largest number of veterans' graves, is highly visible and open year around.
