I follow The Common Man on Twitter and asked them what the name of the new diner will be.
"The 104 Diner" Kind of a let down of a name for a cool diner ![]() I was hoping for The Pemi Diner (since it's across the street from Lake Pemmigewasset) The awnings have been taken off and they repainted the wood building a blue/purple color. Here's what the diner used to look like (from last year) http://www.mosscreekmedia.com/post/C...irl-Diner.aspx It's supposed to be opening in September sometime. Kirk |

Wow... creative juices were flowing on that name, eh?
I liked the "Bobby's Girl" name - it was as throw back as the diner. However, I think the food will make up for it.... hope so, anyways. |

I thought it was a cool name too, but I guess people would associate Bobby's Girl with the old diner, so a new owner, new name wipes the slate clean.

Just re-read my post and thought it might sound like I was saying Bobbie's Girl 's food wasn't good - not so. I was sorry to hear it had closed.
Hubby works up the road from the old diner and we've eaten there - it was always very good. But then I'm happy as heck with a big ol' cheeseburger or rack of ribs and quite frankly, The Common Man wasn't common enough for me. (My very favorite restaurant is the Maine Diner in Wells, Maine.) So... hopefully the fare will stay simple and good! |

thats good that the new owners are getting a move on for the new business. id like to see haw the place does during the winter. always a slow time for the old owners. maybe they can get some business from snowmobilers. id stop there.
cruise night was always a hit. liked going there with my dad and checking out the old cars and then working on ours for a while on the weekends. love common mans food. the new place going to be open for breakfast or just lunch and dinner? time will tell J4K

We've been to the Common Man restaurants a few times and don't really care for the menu. However, we're huge Diner fans. When we're home we'll swing in to the Airport Diner and frequently stop in Tilton on our way to or from the Lake. We stopped Saturday night on our way home from vacation. I had breakfast at 8pm remembering that after all the meals out those two weeks we never made it to George's for breakfast. Once we're at the Lake I don't think we'll be driving out 104 to the diner but passing through we'll be sure to stop. Strawberry shortcake is wicked!

The C-man had done an acceptable job at the Titon Diner and more so at the Airport Diner on Brown Ave in Manchester.

drove by the "new" diner today and saw on the sign OPENING NEXT WEEK new sign looks cool. they painted the outside some blue-ish color (looks kind of purple to me). outside still needs some finish work to me. repaved the parking lot and white lines. not sure what they did with the inside. have seen some ads in the penny saver for managers and such. time will tell when they open and see what the business vrings the new owners. the common man co.

The "104 Diner" is now open for breakfast and lunch (Dinner next week), and I just stopped in. Their paper/cardboard menu is stamped "TRIAL MENU," and they are quick to tell all diners that they are still in "soft opening" mode. But this doesn't matter, as everything was great as would be expected.
There were lots of people poking around the equipment, trying to make sure everything is working OK (or learning how it works, I couldn't tell), including Alex Ray, who was dividing his time between his cell phone (dealing with opening day issues) and chatting with customers. This morning I learned that the "104" is a joint venture between the Common Man people and Plain Jane's Diner in Rumney. I was told that the chef (owner?) of Plain Jane's is working "in the back" of the 104, cooking I suppose, and the menu specifies certain items that have been adopted from Plain Jane's. Inside, the place looks pretty much like Bobby's Girl, with a little more cleanliness. The coffee mugs still carry the former diner's name. ![]() |
