Default Bald Eagle on the ice in Wolfeboro right now

There is a Bald Eagle, maybe a year old sitting in front of the Wolfeboro town docks right now. Or was a second or two ago. Been there for about an hour or so.

Standing right at the edge of the ice. Near the Ice Cream place.

Just an FYI

Yes, I saw this yesterday too. It was sitting in front of the Boat Gas dock at Dive Winnipesaukee for a while. There was a crow swooping back and forth above it for a while. I thought it was just a hawk. Although, after researching immature bald eagles, it matches the images I found.

I know there are some adults in the area, so this must be one of theirs.

Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera with me at the time.

I have been told it is probably hunting for ducks to eat. Have you seen any ducks there?

I took this the other day about 300 yards from where I saw the Eagle.

My full post is here.

Default Pair of Bald Eagles on Ice

Saw a pair of bald eagles on the ice yesterday a few hundred feet off Pitchwood Island (near Stonedam Island). They sat on the ice for 45 minutes before they flew off. It was like they were stalking some fishing holes used earlier in the morning.

Default Ducks

My wife and I drove by the Wolfeboro Town Docks at about 10:30 pm on Friday, 02/12, and there were hundreds of ducks in the water between the docks.

Those ducks better start keeping their heads above water.

Cool For other ducks, yes...

In a summer past, a mallard paddling close to my dock suddenly canted his head to gaze over my shoulder. Looking in that direction, I saw a tiny dot very high in the sky. It was a large bird partly hidden in the trees behind—and quite possibly a predator.

In groups, I suspect they're especially aware of what's "up there". (They're fast fliers, so a fast leap upwards and flight is their escape of choice).

Though they can dive, diving's not such a good "move" for a mallard.

Default Eagle on Paugus Today

A bald eagle was flying over Paugus Bay along South Down Shores and Long bay this morning. All the ducks around the docks made a quick exit.

I just saw a mature Bald Eagle out on Wolfeboro Bay around 2:15 today. It was gone when I came back to get a picture. I'll be keeping an eye on the bay.

I actually lucked out with this one. My office is close to the docks. I saw the Eagle was back on the ice, went and grabbed my camera, went back to the dock behind Dive Winni, and only had to wait about 10 minutes before I got this shot.
