I used to go there all the time and always enjoyed it. The prices are now higher and the portions are smaller. Does anyone else feel this way. I still like it and know it is a hard economy but.........................

Scroll down a page or two of threads and you'll come across a nice review of the VK. Still top notch in my books for what you pay for. Of course, I order the Farmer's Breakfast every time so I get the good sized portion

While I haven't noticed any significant increase at the VK, I don't know any restaurant who hasn't had to up their prices. When delivery fees skyrocketed, restaurants got nailed. Gas went back down, but the delivery fees have not.

I always leave the VK overstuffed and happy. It's my favorite breakfast place. |

VK has great food and you get a good size meal for the price you are paying, they did up their prices but barely and you wont get a decent meal anywhere else for that price.

Sometimes there is a wait at the VK but there's absolutely nothing the restaurant can do about that, they actually turn their tables over a lot quicker than most places. You know a place is good when you see the same faces there every day

We visit VK a few times each summer and more often in the winter when we can snowmobile there. Food is very good and i think the prices are reasonable. We went a few weekends ago when it was raining and the line was out the door at least 45min long. We ended up at BayGuls for a bagel.

I think it is the same as other restaurants. Prices go up and it depends upon who is cooking and putting the food on the plate. Generally, certain foods are portioned/weighed ahead of time ie the meats. French Fries, coleslaw, veggies, dressings, salads etc etc are not weighed. I think if a restaurant has a good reputation for quality of food and are consistantly busy then it is a fair deal for everyone. Did you happen to notice that either Burger King or MacDonalds is offering a 1/3# burger for $3.99. Do the math. $12.00 for a pound of burger?? No sides either. |

Bob and his crew put out a good meal at a fair price- they understand customer service and their market niche very well.

I have been there in years gone by when the line was out the door but not this summer? I was actually there one time when there were only eight tables for four waitresses. I have been there many times this summer with guests and we have all wondered why it was practically empty. When do you people go? I think that the economy and The Bob House is hurting VK but I agree that they have good food for the money. It is just less food for more money that it used to be!! For instance the chicken parm used to be two good sized pieces of chicken and now it is one piece. It is not true that the one piece is larger so that is the same as when it was two pieces. It is less in amount of chicken. The turkey is less and the beef is less. It is a good place to get a good meal for a good price but there is more competition now too. Tonight I had dinner at The Bob House and had a delicious prime rib with garlic blue cheese mashed potato and wonderful snappy pea pods. The bread sticks were delicious. $13.01 final bill for this meal. I then added the tip. Where can you get that at VK?

I gave you a little wiggle room on your original post even after reading your other three posts. If you want to start a thread about how great the Bob House is, please do so. You do not have to denigrate one restaurant to build up another.

I drive by the VK several times a day, it is always busy- at the times of day when they should be busy (not many restaurants are busy at 3PM). If you don't like a place, do as most do-vote with your feet. |

Is now more expensive and less crowded but you get less food which has been a problem now for me for the past two years. The turkey is less and when I asked they said they weigh the portions but they must set the weight for less then they did. There was a time when I would take out meals perhaps three times a week. Now I go once in a while with a neighbor or a guest etc. I went with a group this summer for a lunch and for a breakfast. Both were adequate but more expensive then one would expect for what we ordered. I took grandchildren there for another outing one evening as they love the chicken parm and discovered the now only one piece of chicken instead of two. I went with neighbors twice for dinner and had swordfish which was very good. NONE OF THESE TIMES WAS THERE MUCH OF A CROWD AND ALL OF US WERE COMMENTING ON THE LINE THAT USED TO BE OUT THE DOOR AND NOW ONE JUST WALKS IN AT DINNER AROUND SIX. One time I went with a neighbor couple for the pork and arrived around six thirty and the pork was gone??? I do not know what to tell you. It used to be my favorite restaurant and now I think it has changed. Do you go there often?

I'm always suspicious when someone who has only been a forum member for a few days appears to have an agenda. In the case of LovelytoSeeYou it is promoting the Bob House and cutting down our place (The Village Kitchen)

When someone makes 9 posts, mostly glowing reviews, in just a few days about the same business, it usually means a friend or family member. And there is nothing wrong with saying nice things about a new business, but why do it by disparaging a competitor? Just to let you know that we have not cut any portions....we have actually increased some. Menu prices went up 7% this year after two years with the same menu.....hardly a case of gouging. The people at the Bobhouse are doing a fine job and we wish them well.....but there is plenty of room for everyone. |

The VK rocks. Food is great, service great... additionally, Bob & Sammie are huge supporters of local charities - those charities that help LOCAL people, not just national groups (ie: Red Cross). Plus they are extremely nice folks. I agree with VitaBene...

I love the Bobhouse - I was the first person to give it a thumbs up review so this is NOTHING against them.... BUT - the VK is, was and will always be AWESOME! I will never go anywhere else for breakfast. |

Whenever we are on the "other" side of the lake we always go there for breakfast or lunch. It has always been fantastic for both food and service! I have seen nothing change, portion wise or other and hope it never does!!

			1. there are only three dots in an ellipsis. Dot dot dot... Major pet peeve of mine.

	2. CAPS LOCK SENTENCES ARE SCREAMING. And rude. 3. Only newbies and tourists call the VK Country Cookin. 4. You can see right through your BS. That makes you and The Bobhouse look bad, which kinda blows your agenda. |

Lovely..........If you review all of my posts over the years you will be hard pressed to find a negative or angry post, but you have pushed my button.

You've been a member of this forum for 3 days and have proceeded to bad mouth the Woodshed (40 years in business), the Corner House (40 years), the VK,(25 years), Sam&Rosies(10 years), Lemongrass and Kevins(not negative, but using the thread to promote your new favorite restaurant). Somehow, we have all managed to survive without your approval. Who appointed you to be the lakes regions restaurant critic? You are a coward to use this forum to promote your newfound obsession without identifying yourself. My name is Bob Jones.....what is yours? |

Oh, please. I read these threads all the time, and Lovely's posts have become ridiculous. 3 Days and all her posts promote The Bob House? No, no agenda there, not at all! You can't beat VK for breakfast!

Actually LovelytoSeeYou has influenced me BIG TIME! Yup, it has put a bad taste in my mouth about the Bob House. Maybe it is a coincidence and this person actually loves, loves, loves this new restaurant so much that he or she has to mention it in all 11 posts.

However, if it walks like a duck... well you know the rest. All I can say is that if you are a friend of the owners or an employee or have some relation to the Bob House you have done far more damage than good. If somehow, and I doubt it, I am wrong please do us all a favor and leave your review and let it stand without mentioning competitor. FYI, I am not a restaurant owner, I have no agenda. I have my favorites and my not so favorites. I take issue with you degrading 3 or 4 of the best restaurants in the lakes region and praising this new place as the second coming of Christ. I have yet to try the Bob House but this is strike #2 as far as I am concerned. I hope it stays in business long enough for me to try it though.

I think the food at the VK is great....I think the service at the VK is superior....I am not related to Bob, the head chef, or any of the wonderful wait staff....! I never object to pulling up and parking only to find a line out the door....fine dining is worth waiting for....The Inn at Little Washington, one of the top restaurants in the USA has a 6 to 8 month waiting list....and no line! If you don't like the line for Sat. or Sun. VK breakfast...go on Monday...never a line!

Oh, one more thing : My Mom always told me that if I can't say anything nice about someone or something....well you know the rest...so I thought I should say something nice about The Bob House.... "It always makes me smile when I drive by their "temporary-looking" sign, because I know that just a little further down the road and around the bend a good meal is waiting for me at the VK!!"

Are you saying that you still have two pieces of chicken for the chicken parm? Until this year the chicken parm had the two pieces. When I went this year the chicken parm was one piece and it was not at all as much as the two pieces were previously. Are you saying that this summer there has been a door out the line like there has been in other summers. I have been only once to the Sunday breakfast when I had a whole crowd visiting and I am just not a breakfast eater as I do not like eggs etc so I know nothing about the daily breakfasts that some are talking about here. I have had one lunch there again with a large group. I am someone who either eats with another couple of another person in the evening. I also took some grandchildren one time for chicken parm. It was at that meal that I noticed that the chicken was now one piece. With the previous two pieces I could feed two grandchildren as they do not eat as much. This time they all ate their whole meal as the chicken was so much smaller when made with one piece.

I loved the swordfish this year and have had it more than once. I have eaten there for years and always loved the food. I loved the prime rib on Saturday but that is now smaller it seems to me and more expensive. I guess we are all having to be more careful with money so maybe it is just that I have less money to spend so have to be more money conscious. I still like your restaurant and have been there several times this year. No one really wants to hear the truth it seems though. I do like your restaurant but just not as much as I did. I know you will continue to do well. |

There were indeed people waiting in a line that went out the door, and onto the front porch...but i'm quite sure I saw no doors that were out of line. The only issue I have with VK is that someone seems to empty tabsco sauce into the ketchep bottles as some sort of joke. Also, I have seen Bob, the owner dump full shakers of pepper onto the plate of customers who complain. He can also be heard yelling: "NO SOUP FOR YOU!!!" And lastly, I would point out he has the best vanity plate on his truck of any business owner in the lake's region. |

Why do you continue to make snide comments about the VK and others. You start to complement them on the fish and then it's downhill from there. Please think about what your doing, lighten up life is too short to be so negative all the time.

Those are fair questions, Lovely and I'm glad to respond. You've been a good customer over the years and we appreciate that. First, the prime rib. We use USDA choice bone-in ribs. The size can vary slightly due to human error.....large cuts get the bone and the 10oz cut does not and it's real tricky to get a perfect cut everytime around the bone. Takes a lot of practice. We have never, ever cut back on any portion sizes.

We usually use chicken tenders (2) for our chicken parm, but sometimes we pound out 1/2 a breast.....which is inly one piece of equal size..you can get a smaller order for $5.50....just ask. We pound them out thin and bread them in our own fresh bread crumbs with a little garlic and lemon, saute in olive oil and a hint of butter, finished off under the broiler with a three cheese blend. We don't feature much Italian, but I feel we do a good job on it. Prices....glad you brought it up.....everyone is watching their $$ in this crazy economy. We have not gone up on anything this year. Last spring (2008) we went up aprox 7% accross the menu after 2 years with no increase. I hate raising prices because we pride ourselves on being affordable, but we had to because of rising food prices. As far as the lines are concerned ....we can only compare by actual sales and we are down about 3% over last year and happy about that. June and Aug were slightly off, May and July were up. September is going great due to the nice weather. And to S A Meredith.....I deny dumping pepper in customers plates.....it was SALT. Sorry....some kid asked for extra crackers and I just snapped....he was in a wheelchair...taking up extra space. I feel bad about it now. My license plate is HNIC.....my grandchildrens initials. And as for the tabasco in the ketchup....I'll have to watch that one. We don't refill the bottles...just toss them when they're empty. Have a good fall, everyone. |

Before everyone else wakes up. On good weather days I'll take a motorcycle for the 8 mile trek to Country Cooken (Or what ever its called ) . I sit at the BAR ,read my Boston Herald, and enjoy a consistent ,Delicious breakfast, and always very filling. BUT THE COFFEE S%@KS. Come on guys its not that hard to make good coffee.I know, we all have our own opinion on how java should taste, But "YUCK" So I will continue my summer ritual ,that is one of many that I live for , Because the food is great and I enjoy the atmosphere , I will put up with coffee ( no choice ) then head back for another day in Paradise. Stopping at Dunkin Donuts first. (saddle bags ). I know ,now I'm gonna hear how D Ds S%$ks. KEEP BOAT'EN |

Weird? I am no Coffee connoisseur but I think that Dunkin Donuts Coffee is DISGUSTING! I can't stand it, it always tastes burnt to me. So funny how people have different tastes when it comes to stuff like this: Beer, Coffee, Soda, etc. I absolutely do not doubt that you hate the VK Coffee. I for one find it pretty darn good. That's just me. I know some people love Starbucks, Dunkins and the chains. My favorite Coffee is the one I sip on my dock.

I have had the chicken parm many times. There were two good chicken breasts (or what seemed like chicken breasts) of such size that even I often could not eat it all at one sitting. I am not imagining this. I had a gal come over last year unexpectedly and said, "Here there is plenty for two." I do not know when that changed but it has. The two pieces that I had for several years were certainly not chicken tenders. Or not the same as what you now serve. I feel that the amount of chicken is MUCH less with the one breast that is served so I guess we are just going to have to disagree on this matter. I am not saying that the chicken parm is not good. On the contrary. It is delicious. It is just less chicken. I also like the turkey and the swordfish. The portions just seem now to be more weighted conscious than I guess they were in the past and maybe that is what needs to be done for profits. Maybe VK was just too good to be true

Still a nice place to eat but there is more competition in your price range now so I go to several different places instead of several times a week to VK. I hope we all do well actually so best wishes from me.

I really love going to VK, although I have not been there for dinner; I do avoid weekends as the crowd IS often out the door. Coffee is a tough issue as everyone has his/her favorite. I roast my own, but that sounds fancier than it really is ( it does save money) Anyway for what it's worth, I like VKs coffee. I do think Starbucks is overroasted, over priced and tastes burnt. My feeling is that most folks who like Starbucks do not drink it black as I do and cream and sugar does wonders for bad coffee. Dunkin Donuts is variable and it shouldn't be. When it's good and fresh it's very very good...when it's been sitting around, it's horrid. Actually MacDonalds coffee is not bad and it is a good value.

Samiam's responses show what makes his restaurants successful...honest, informative but never nasty or defensive with a touch of humor. I have nothing to do with any restaurant, but I did introduce myself once to Samiam (Bob). |

Quote. " ketchup....I'll have to watch that one. We don't refill the bottles...just toss them when they're empty." The health Department should commend you on this, as I have seen some restaurants stacking and refilling ketchup bottles, without adding some tide or other antibacterial.

Since this is a thread about a restaurant we need to hear from the Forum's restaurant expert. Wasn't there an expert that used to leave quick, brief informative comments once in a while? How about a guest commentary from................Nadia? (Whoops, sorry, my bad!) |

In God We Trust, May The Good Lord Bless and Keep Us, We Gather Together to Ask the Lord Blessings, We Wish You A Merry Christmas, Over the River and to the Woods to Grandmother's House We Go, We the People, AND "I hope we all do well actually so best wishes from me to you???" Off to the day. Some of you may need to do yard work or go to Church or gather with family???? I wish us all well though. Even though some of you appear to have an agenda to me at least. Just to attack. Even SamIAm cannot say enough bad things about Hannaford???? LOL HMMMMMMM I wonder about the drama here. You all can't be teenagers and I am just not used to this in adults. Any of you ever go to performances? You ever read the reviews? You think that these people all have an interest in the performances that they love and are out to destroy the performances that they dislike? LOL Too crazy for any more of my time this morning. Hope we all have a nice day though. Oh Oh there is that WE again??? Crazy.

![]() Nah LTSY, your whole demeanor and approach has been your undoing I am afraid. Again, you are dealing with many individuals on a public forum that have seen this same act over and over again. I hope you stick around though. It is nice to have varying opinions for sure. Unfortunately though I'm not sure how long you'll last. You seem to take every little comment so personally? Why? You criticized just about every eating establishment in the Moultonboro area, save for one. You didn't expect a reaction? People have their favorites and they get angry when someone slams it when they perceive an agenda. I noticed you ran to the defense of the Bob House when someone complained about them. Good advice BTW. What was it "Go there during the week when they aren't busy?" In my eyes if a restaurant doesn't have their act together during the busy times then it aint' worth my dollar when they aren't busy. Anyway, try not to take this all too personally. I fail to see these "attacks" you mention. People are debating your assertions and questioning your agenda. So far it all seems like a healthy debate so far. The victim act usually fails to raise any sympathy as far as I have ever seen on this board. FYI: I saw the "WE" comment and declined to post. Now I will only say that it appeared to me, and now I can say others, that it was a slip of the tongue so to speak. When you made that statement it seemed as though you were aligning yourself with SAMIAM as a restaurant owner hoping that you (we) all do well. Just an observation not an accusation. P.S. This message is not intended to be an attack. It's an opposing viewpoint in a debate, nothing personal. As a matter of fact next time I eat at the VK I will look out for the things you mentioned and report back my experiences. As is often the case the forum is in the back of my head when I go out to eat. If someone makes comments here I judge whether or not my experiences match those stated here.

So sad to have lost that chance for a perfect season a couple of years ago. Wonder how Brady will do? I was a frustrated Red Sox fan for most of my life (born in 43) but never expected to see the Sox beat the Yanks after being down 3 to them and come back in 4 straight. The series may have been a boring sweep to some but to me to finally have a world series win in my lifetime was an answer to my dreams. AND THEN TO WIN A SECOND !!! I love the Sox and the Pats!!!

The one and only way it can be interpreted is, we, as in a grouping of restaurant owners/ employees. If we are to believe her later post, then for some very odd reason she felt compelled to write a long post about chicken parm, and then end it be wishing that all forum members are doing OK. "I hope we all do well..." Nope. Not buyin' it. |

RPM......I'm LMAO......about your post about the VK coffee, because I'm not that crazy about it either. We have bought from the same coffee company since 1972......all the way back to Longwood farms. Some peple love it and others don't.Every pot is ground fresh, but I, personally like the DD taste.I stop there myself sometimes and everybody rags the hell out of me.If you want to bring a cup of DD in for breakfast, you have my permission.Would you mind bringing me a small regular? Glad you like my food, though.

My guess is the date - born in 43? The former poster we are thinking about is younger than that. I think it's supposed to be a 'No that couldn't be her - this person's older'

WT*, definately not. I am not a prude, but I would prefer to use "it" only in company that I am totally familiar with, and not loud enough to offend anyone else. (I am not offended, just would not use it here on the forum). Again, JMHO. ![]() Now back to your regularly scheduled program...

I've added this to my Favorites! To think I was getting ready to ask if LOL meant "laugh out loud" or "lots of luck"! I barely know about three or four...it seems I have LOTS to learn! Maybe even more than I want to know!

This thread is crazy, Oh my!

Back to the topic... ![]() I had been under the impression that VK's Jams and Jellies were homemade. Was that ever true, and is it now? I thought that was unusual, but nice if true! I've always been for breakfast, but always been very pleased with it. (And, I'm a local who still often mistakenly calls it Country Cookin', btw) Are they known for any 'signature' dishes that I should try? |

Swordfish and prime rib and turkey are delicious. I think the chicken parm is delicious even though there was not enough chicken for me the last time. I know someone who orders the sirloin tips I think they are called and they sure look good. My issue was that some of the portions seemed smaller. It was never that the food was not good. The food has always been delicious.

In the interest of scientific study, I have had breakfast at the VK twice in the last two days. Since I am now falling asleep at work and wish I was wearing sweatpants, I can assure you the breakfast portions remain unaltered.

![]() I plan on taking my kids in for dinner at some point in the next week and will order chicken parm whether I want it or not. I will provide photographic evidence of said chicken for all to see. We will disguise ourselves in the interest of a fair study. For breakfast we went as 'local girl with her visiting sister, bro-in-law, and twin babies who threw pancakes all over the place'. I will come up with something different for the parm experiment. Stay tuned folks, this could be an expose worthy of Geraldo.

Considering what was written in that other thread and now here, you guys really need to find something to do with your time. Talk about having major issues. I can assure you this LovelyToSeeYou character is not Nadia

And let's refrain from ranting and raving about half truths, who threatened who, and posting personal information that has nothing to do with the Lakes Region. I've never seen grown men, repeatedly and insistantly, attack, humiliate and flog an alledged "younger, mentally disturbed girl". Drop it. It's sickening.

As I said earlier or in another thread, don't read the post, or ignore them. Worst case scenario, put them on your ignore list.

Life is too short to spend that amount of time for no purpose. This is a fun, information filled, let's be kind to one another website. Sorry, slipped up onto the soap box again . I'll be quiet now.Be well, everyone.
