Default July Boating Plans and Stories

Wow summer is really going by fast! another 3 great months left!

July's first weekend is up and coming.. What's everyone have planned??

I know I will be all over the lake on Friday breaking the engine in on its final hours. Braun Bay party on Saturday and actually towing home on Sunday. Monday morning leaving 3 am for Virginia....

On the 17th there is a sbonh rally on the lake which should attract a lot of people and Donzi Poker run on the 31st I believe.. Should be a fun packed July!!!

Anyone have any great plans up and coming??

I don't know all the details as of yet. However I believe there will be a boat cruise around the lake giving a tour to some special supporters, some group photos, and I believe a stop off to promote safety inspections.

The details are still being worked out but there should be some well known figures and a fun day planned. PM me if you would like details to participate. I will forward them once I know.

I would love to say hello and see the Resorter, I am a big old boat fan. I usually put in at States Landing.

Have fun this weekend.

Picking up part of the fam at MHT on Thursday and will be there through next Thursday...gotta work for a couple of days and will then be back for that next weekend. : - ) (Somebody else will make the trek back to MHT for another family member on Friday.)

The "kids" will likely be in Braun Bay for part of Saturday and Sunday. Hopefully we'll all hit the Paradise on Saturday night for a little bit of Tiger Lily.

Lots of parties over the weekend...including a lamb roast. Baaaahhh...

I'm off on vacation from this Thursday through next week. Unfortunately I'm not yet in a position to have a place on the lake and I'm to cheap to rent so it's trailer back and forth and back and forth and back and forth... it gets old and admittedly slightly insane. However I can't complain I got a nice boat and can get out and enjoy it with the family so I consider myself extremely fortunate. I keep thinking that I'll be able to save up enough $$ someday to make a run at a small island camp. Eh - who knows. Anyone got one for sale cheap?

Tempted to go out on Thursday just because, if I have nothing better to do I may. Beyond that will be out all day for the 3rd, take in the fireworks in Alton, pull out drive home, sleep a couple hours turn around and head back early AM for the 4th, another all day event taking in the fireworks in Wolfeboro then pull out drive home and collapse. Beyond that if the weather looks good I'll be out.

Be safe out there everyone and Happy Independence Day!!!

Default Long Island Bridge Campground.

For those folks who lacks the resources to rent or own property on the big lake, but have a boat on a trailer. Please consider camping out at the campground. They are boater friendly. Have limited mooring but I never had a problem getting one. And a great beach for the chidren / grandkids. They rent by the weekend, week, or season.

Check it out.

Maxum why not launch at Downing's Landing in Alton. You can get a discounted price compared to the weekend $25 and weekday $20 if you leave the boat on the trailer there for the duration of your vacation. No towing back and forth. Yes, you do have to launch and retrieve every day but to my way of thinking it is less wear and tear on you, your vehicle and your boat & trailer. And you will save some gas on your tow vehicle because you are not towing. I am doing it on my vacation.
Check it out on their website http://downingslanding.com/

Yeah I know there are options like that available, and if the truth be told I have family members that have places in the area where I could drop the boat if need be.

I should mention and maybe some will relate, others may not, I am very very (did I say very?) particular about my boat and my stuff in general. I never leave the boat outside period even though I have full covers for it. Well OK I'll admit to having left it outside a couple of times but put a tarp over the whole thing so it wouldn't get dirty and it was only for one night at a time, two or more is out of the question!

OK so my wife says I'm way to anal stuff and I'll not deny the fact some may think I go over the top when I wax my lawn tractor or detail my portable generator, but it's just my nature. I've even wax my tool boxes.

All this stuff is expensive and a serious investment so I go over the top to keep them in as new condition best I can. Maybe I need professional help...?

I have too many family members coming this weekend so I tried LI Bridge Campground, they are full. Not a surprise since they have a super location. I got a site at Bears Pine Woods campground on Moultonboro Neck though. Not a big deal, 1 night of trailer sleeping to let my sisters get together in the family house for the first time in over ten years. I can deal with that, no problem. On Sunday I'm back in the house for the rest of the week.
I've got the boat running better than last year when I bought it used from an alleged mechanic. He claimed he went through the engine, BS! I had my first real day out with it Sunday and it exceeded expectations. Took a run from Braun Bay to 19 Mile Bay, to Wolfeboro where I dropped my kids off, then deadheaded back. I'm in a very good mood cause this boat is way heavier and more comfortable than the boats I grew up on. I just love Winni!

What kind of rig are you running?

Since Ames Farm is shut down as a launch ramp, I am also looking for somewhere to launch from as I too am a day boater and always trailer up.

I perfer somewhere on the south side of the lake, but will go up to Meredith if I have to as the public ramp there is pretty good and parking is close by.

Default Great News!

Boat is ready! Starter slipped and actually sheared a bolt off in the block. Wally's Marine did a great job. They had to pull the engine to get the bolt out and replace. They did it for a very reasonable price as well! I should be splashing her tomorrow afternoon.

Robmac, the sbonh event is on the 17th. We are again teaming up with the Power Squadron to get all members boats checked and anyone else who would like to participate. It sounds like a few big supporters and VIP legislators will also be joining us for the day. PM me for details if you want to meet up. Should be a fun filled day. Just have to pray for good weather.

Once again I will be hitching a ride on a family members boat for the 4th. Will be leaving Channel Marine in the am and heading to parts unknown, probably Johnson's Cove or Braun Bay, then off to dinner and hopefully catching some fireworks by boat.

If you see a strapping young man in a red newer Crownline 240LS give a wave, probably won't be me, but at least you're being polite. Seriosly though, hope to see some folks out and about, we will most likely be traveling with two smaller Ebb Tide bowriders.

Check that I will be in the 22' Ebb Tide bowrider (red).

Here's to a safe holiday weekend, enjoy!

Man, you have the best sense of humor that I ever saw out here.
Starters, start your engines... They do not slip. If the mounting bolts are not tightened to start with, then and Oh yes, they will brake bolts like popcorn, and consider yourself lucky because I have seen loose starters brake not only bolts, but engine blocks as well. Nothing new mind you, lots of torque involved to light an engine off... The more compression an engine has, the more critical things become.

I read and enjoy your comments here, and also can't help feeling sorry for some of the engine problems that you have suffered. I trust you, and my sincere hope is that you will find a competent outfit to perform any work on your boat that you for what ever reason elect to outsource to them.

Here's to a short learning curve [ for you ], and a long and very Happy boating future!!
Best of luck to you and your's,

Terry

Default Working tomorrow =(

So I have to make the best of it today.

Have company coming at 10:30a. Cruising to Shibley's for lunch and hopefully meet up with OCD. Then a scenic view of the lake for the guests.

Meeting up with more guests around 5p at the NASWA. And possibly a cruise up to Blanchard Island. My favorite spot for a sunset cruise.

Have a great day mates!

OK, this working all the time thing is really starting to get to me with reading all the posts of you guys having fun on the water. Of course I'm working again this weekend. So you want to be self employed do you? Not looking for sympathy here as I'm pretty lucky to be in this position. However, I finally have a day off and it would be Monday. Yea!! If any of you have plans on Monday on the water I would love to meet more FF members. Bring it on.

Thanks Terry... It has been a long road but she performed beautifully this weekend. Ran to Alton for lunch with my wife and son. Met up with Sunset Bob. Great seeing you... Then all the way home... Yesterday made it to Braun Bay then back.... Wow A LOT of boat traffic and saw many captn bone head moves..... But its the 4th so what do you expect.

Now I remember why I normally don't put in on the 4th and watch from the dock. But all in all Great weekend..

Boat is on the trailer.. Off to VA tomorrow at 3 AM... Have a safe week everyone. Will post pics when I get back... Can't wait to hammer the stick down and race the James!

Good luck down there!

I was sitting on the beach yesterday when you came back in around the Triangle. It is the first time I saw and heard your boat underway. Very nice.

We were off the water today. July 4th is just too busy out there for my 14'. Took in the Castle in the Clouds. Great day for a visit there! They are doing a great job with the house and grounds. Everything was looking great.

After the Castle we took a ride down to look at the lake at States Landing and guess who had just loaded his boat on the trailer. Ocdactive with his dad. Great to meet both of you. My boat could be the dingy for the OCDACTIVE

Great to finally meet you in person! OCD almost didn't make it to VA.... Hit a deer in CT on my way down. Truck and Boat are fine but it took out the fender of the trailer. I had to jerry rig it to hold it on and off the tire. Could have been A LOT worse...

Default Crowded weekend.

Friday was fantastic up until about 3 PM. It got a little crazy. Saturday, I had to work. Early Sunday morning was fantastic! Quit around 10 AM, again got a little crazy. Toward the evening, I decided to head up to Moultonborough Neck to see friends. What a nightmare out of the Weirs Channel! Yesterday was nice after 6 PM.

My sister and nephews are up from Lake Norman, NC for the week. Heading out to Braun Bay for the day and heading to 20 Mile bay for a cookout after. Perfect day for the sand bar!

It really calmed down quickly after 6 PM yesterday, we even were able to ski in Mboro Bay.

WOW, that is a close as you can get,,,

That would have shaved a few years off my life,,,

Glad the damage was limited and didn't ruin your trip.

What is it that say,,, "what doesn't kill you,,," Well it doesnt kill you!

Hopefully this is your only hiccup on the trip.

ENJOY!

Default What a trip

Well other then hitting the deer it was a tremendous trip! Will get some pics up later on but another winni.com member joined me with his Donzi and we experienced some great times. The actual run was great but the weather was intermitent. At one point on our way to Norfolk the rain came down so hard and the wind kicked up it felt like we were in a washing machine with 5 ft cross wakes, tidal waves, and rollers... It was amazing though.

Will get more details and photos up later on but have to get this pile of work done!

Redwing and I had a great afternoon on the lake. We traveled on my seadoo from Green's Basin to Alton and Wolfeboro. There wasn't any wind so the only swells we encountered were created by other boats. Being on the lake made our day!

Isn't it surprising how a little different geographical location can change the same sunset? Looking West, we had this view of the same sunset.

Looking East, a brilliant double-rainbow appeared after the rain. Just in moving to the end of the dock (from the porch), its intensity had diminished for this photo.

Default Four days off!

I will be living at the marina. I will be out and about on the lake. Going to take advantage of the quietness today and cruise the lake. Saturday and Sunday, while it is crazy, visit friends until the lake quiet down and cruise again.

Life is good.

Default Great weekend!

Although Friday was overcast with 70% of rain. It had not rain! The lake was pretty much no boats! As if it was early spring or late fall! A boater from Newfound lake joined me and we enjoyed the fireworks at the Weirs. For dinner, we parked at Lakeport Landing and tried out CJ Avery's. Food was outstanding and reasonably priced. The crab cake sandwhich was huge. Almost a 1/2 pounder! Handmade and not grinded. It was mashed.

Saturday morning was quiet as well. Got busy around 10 and rafted off Patrician Shores. I saw two family boaters with tubes cruise through the Weirs Channel at above no wake speed. Everyone was shouting at them! One finally slowed down when another boat tried to cut him off. One had MS and the other NH bow numbers. No MP in sight. Saturday evening there was a Corona party at the NAZ.

Sunday, I was invited for a day on Lake Winnisquam. Enjoyed some water skiing and rope swinging. Things almost unheard of on the big lake. The sandbar scene is incredible! Like the old days on Braun Bay. The sky opened up around 4 PM. You be amazed how many boats you can cram under Mosquito bridge! LOL!

I'm also amazed at the number of folks that used to boat/lived on Winnipesaukee that moved to Winnisquam. I moved from Gilford on the Broads to Winniquam on Shore Drive in Laconia. Not only is lakefront property cheaper, taxes are half of Gilford! I have 'lake top' property on Winnipesaukee.

Just noticed I put 44 hours on the clock this year. Last year's total was 32. Makes me wonder how one of my protaginator put on a 1000 hours on his boat a year!!!

Have this Friday and Saturday off. Stay tuned.

I realize we will be starting an Aug. thread soon but I just got these pics sent to me from the photographer in the Helo from the run I did earlier this month. I thought I would share. Hoping to get some good ones this weekend as well!
