Thumbs down Vandals Threaten Snowmobile Access

From the following department: "I'll do whatever I damn well please and don't give a damn about how my actions may affect others" - What is wrong with these people?
See CITIZEN ARTICLE
If they are caught they should make monetary restitution and be forced to groom the trails each winter.

This would be a case where a portable video camera or two strategically placed with motion detectors would catch these yo-yos in a few weeks. Restitution and steep fines would probably stop them.

Default Pathetic

That is pathetic. I would guess that it is probably people who have been 4-wheeling in that area for years, and took exception to the gates being put up. Why can't they take NO for an answer?
It used to be that posted signs would keep unwanted traffic out of an area. Nowadays steel gates don't even work.

I could see where one of those camaras that are used to photograph wildlife might work. The shutter is tripped when someone/something crosses through an area.Get-em. SS

Boy reading that just gets my blood boiling

As an avid snowmobilier I'm royally mad as it takes lots of money and the free time of club members to provide and maintain the trail network. In addition to that keeping trails open has become more difficult without this sort of thing happening. Here we have nothing at all having to so with snowmobiling potentially having the effect of trail closure.

On the flip side I belong to a local 4WD club and we have also battled the same thing as well. This gives us all a very bad reputation even though every organized club out there are very conscience of potential impacts wheeling on any property will have. As such all organized events are very carefully monitored so this exact thing won't happen.

This is a case of a few idiots (no offense to the idiots out there) who simply have no regard for anything but thier own good time. I hope those responsible are not only caught, but have to face steep fines and pay for the damage done if not thrown in the can (jail) for a while. Shoot I'm all for them loosing thier vehicles as well if they are conducting themselves in this manner. Clearly they are not mature enough to own a 4WD.

Angry Not an isolated incident !!!

The same thing happened to multi-use trails in Alton at the end of April. I just joined the New Durham valley ATV Club and haven't had a chance to ride their trails yet. Everyone was waiting until the end of "Mud Season" to go out and do trail maintenance in preparation for opening them up for the season. The following is an excerpt from the club website as to what they found:

"ATV CLUB OFFICERS WENT THROUGH THE TRAILS WITH THE OWNER AGENT. HE WAS NOT HAPPY WITH WHAT WE FOUND!!!!! SOME PEOPLE HAVE BEEN RIDING 4-WHEELERS, TRUCKS, AND TRAIL BIKES, ON THE TRAILS. GATES HAVE BEEN CUT OPEN, AND A CAMP CABIN WAS BROKEN INTO. THE TRAIL UP MOUNT CAVARTY HAS RUTS 15-20" DEEP."

The landowner was understandably upset but he has granted the ATV club the chance to repair the damage. There has already been one work party and it will require a lot more work from unselfish volunteers and heavy equiptment to restore those trails. The club has received help from non-members, trail bike clubs and snowmobilers. There are a lot of very angry people that would like to catch these criminals before the police do.
