Default October's Bright Blue Weather

In 8th grade (1958!) the nuns at St Charles taught us a poem: October's Bright Blue Weather. It's literary brilliance was completely wasted on me at the time, but over the years I understand what it was about although I do not remember the verse.

Now, when I go out on the lake I can see the wonder of the mountain brilliance that surrounds us and the clear air that we have in late September and October. Views are so much better now that the moisture is out of the air.

And the lake is so quiet compared to July and August.

We like to go out south of Welch Island, turn the engine off and just sit there and enjoy the ambience.

Do any of you do the same? Where? Why this time of year?

Talking Night...

I think the best time on the lake is at night (around 2 a.m.) when there's no boat traffic and almost all the lights along the shore are off. The stars are so brilliant. It seems as if I'm sitting in a huge planetarium. I love it. I took the little people in my life (6 of them between the ages of 7-12) out this past summer and they were in awe.

October is great too. Everything is so crisp and fresh. Going for a brisk boat ride (clothed in layers in case it gets warm) to Centre Harbor (from Bear Island) and then walking to what is now Canoe for an early dinner will always hold great memories for me. I can't remember the name. It was the restaurant that opened right after it was the little banana boat ice cream place.

The Ossippee mountains are spectacular at that time of year.
