Dry Spring

Several years ago, some members organized a snow dance to bring in some snow. It's time to get the band together for a rain dance! While most, if not all of the lakes in the area are full, I don't expect that to last if we don't get a good rain soon.

We went for a walk on the Cotton Valley Rail Trail this morning. A portion of it runs along the Smith River in Wolfeboro. The river is at July/August levels, pretty much just a trickle. Normally at this time of year it is overflowing it's banks.

Only a few days of rain showing in the 10-day forecast, and all with a less than 50% chance of precipitation. Start dancing!

This spring has not been that dry, down around 1-2 inches. The reason for the low streams is more because of a low snow year and hence no snow to melt. Don't wish for rain just yet.

I was out hiking over the weekend and noticed that the entire forest was like a tinderbox. Very dry, too dry for this time of year. Today's rain will help, but we need a good slow soaker that lasts a couple of days.

I agree that the low snow amounts received and therefore little melt amounts is the primary cause. The forecast for Center Harbor is for a chance of rain 8 out the next 10 days. I don't mind a little extra rain but I hope it gets back to normal precipitation by June.

These things tend to work themselves out over time.

Too much rain!!
Black mold growing on the deck now. I plan to use bleach on it. Any other suggestions?

Powerwash....no bleach required...

First heard about this stuff in another thread on the forum. Has worked great for us for things that would get green or black mold.
