Default youtube tv

Our youtube tv streaming package dropped ABC which means no channel 9. Any suggestions for a replacement?

Channel 3, WCAX, Burlington, Vermont is a CBS-affiliate with people who show up to work.

WMUR App on your phone/tablet casted to your TV for now.

Usually, these license squabbles just last days, hope this is one of those things.

Default A Cheap Option!

I just got a Superbox. It works off the internet and seems to get everything, and I mean everything. Looks like it will get over 2,000 channels. The Patriot's games were not usually available while in Florida except when they were playing a Florida team.. From Florida, I can watch the Patriots on WBZ with the Superbox. it will also get WMUR while in Florida.

I will give it a couple more weeks to experiment with it but I may cancel cable TV and just keep the internet.

Keep us updated, these things usually get scrambled so I'm curious to see how long it works.

I downloaded VeryLocal, which is the WMUR app. You can get the news and such on that if that's what you are looking for.
I'm debating going over to FUBO to get back ESPN, and it has NESN too. I don't like having 10 apps to watch things, I'm a surfer. And I got rid of cable so I don't have to pay a ton, if I have to buy 10 different apps, it all washes out in the end.
I will research this SuperBox thing though, sounds interesting.

Disney...who owns ABC....just got married to HULU this past week nad they dropped the hammer on youTubetv. Bet they are asking big bucks to get it back. FUBO looks like the best alternative for now. Will wait a few days, but I am ready to switch.

Where does the content for the superbox come from? Torrent sites?
Are you using a VPN?

I had a jailbroken firestick and it worked great for a while, then more and more streams would simply hang. A VPN may be a solution.

I am not a real technical person. It just runs on WIFI.

I am at the Florida house and I watched the Patriot's game Sunday November 2, using the Superbox. Without the Superbox I would not have been able to see it. It did freeze up once but just going up and down one channel brought it back to the game.

So far I am glad I bought it. It operates slightly differently than the Xfinity box so there is a small learning curve. I will give it another week or two and then I plan to cancel cable TV and just keep the internet. It only cost about $300 so just a few months without a cable bill will have more savings than that.

Near the lake it depends completely on your exact location (as in, on which side of which hill or mountain are you.)

At our house on Meredith Neck, for instance, we have zero ability to get WMUR or anything to the West of us. But we apparently have a clear shot to Portland, Maine - tho it's a pretty long way.

That said, with a $50 antenna (roof mounted, but just on a porch) and a $30 signal booster we get good signals from the Portland ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox affiliates.

The hard part is figuring out ahead of time what will work

That website says that at my location the WMUR reception will be "moderate".

Hmmmm...

Default Direct TV

We've had good luck with Direct TV. Fairly inexpensive and lots of channel options.

I remember, many years ago when cable first emerged, there were black boxes that could get around the cable. I don't remember the details but friends of mine at MIT made me one. It worked great...For quite a while, before the cable co.'s caught on.

And that would be with a 30' above the ground antenna. In my experience that requires a mast, guy wires, a pre-amp at the antenna, etc. Stuff that Radio Shack sold 30 years ago. But Radio Shack no longer exists. So unless the reception is strong and you can use a simple indoor antenna, forget about OTA reception.

That just cracked me up!!!! That was my brother's job. I remember at one time he could change it from a pole outside his upstairs bedroom window.

Default Back in the day...

Back in the mid-1980s, we had a roof-mounted antenna at our house in Alton Bay. The fledgling cable company, Lakes Region Cable television, was only on main roads in Alton, but you could contact them to see what it would cost to run the service to your house.

Dad contacted them and they came out and talked to Dad. The sales guy said it would be necessary to run the cable from Rte 11 up through the woods to our house on Rand Hill Rd. He had one of those measuring thig-a-bobs on a wheel that he used to measure the distance. He then told Dad he had some measurements to take and he would come back into the house when he finished his calculations.

Remember, this was in the mid-80s and the house was normally only occupied on weekends. The guy said he a really good news, it would only cost just under $4,000 to run the cable and poles to house.

Dad said thanks for your time, but forget it! (We finally got cable on our street several years later.)

Default Channel 9

I have the WMUR app on my android phone and a LG TV. Using the WMUR app I can stream the local news on my phone. Using the phone's smart view mirror setting the phone screen is cast to the TV. Good for the ch 9 news anyway.
