News reports say that Gov. Lynch won't reappoint safety commissioner Richard Flynn who has been in charge of the State Police and Marine Patrol since 1972. People seem to be divided on the issue, one point being the great job he has done with his 34 years of appointment, the other side being that change is neccessary for progress to happen. What does everyone think?

Don't be surprised if...
Good-bye Mr. Flynn = Hello Speed Limit for the Lake.

With the dems running things you can also expect a smoking ban for restaurants and possibly a motorcycle helmet law......so hard to look cool when you're on a chopper.

Remember one thing here, things aren't always what they seem. It maybe that Gov. Lynch won't reappoint Mr. Flynn, but I think more then likely after 34 years in the position Mr. Flynn has informed Gov. Lynch that he doesn't want to be reappointed. Now as to whether or not change is good, well that all depends on who the new commisioner is.....

I highly doubt Commisioner Flynn didn't want to be reappointed! If that were the case he could just retire....
I think Samiam is on to something... the democrats want thier people in power positions. The first term, Gov. Lynch pretty much went with the flow. Now he wants to put his stamp on the state. You can bet you will see a restaurant/public places smoking ban this year, maybe a boat speed limit (although thats a tough call, I have seen some of the raw data and a better case could be made for outlawing tubing and wakeboarding) and no doubt there will be a push for a motorcycle helmet law next year. No need to mention the property tax/sales tax/income tax debate that is coming... No need to worry about personal responsibility... they are just going to legislate responsibility and tax us to death! Woodsy

Unless I am mistaken, I believe you will find he is collecting a pension and a salary. An item I seem to remember being brought to light during the Benson/Flynn/Heed fiasco. Then again, maybe that fiasco is part of why Lynch doesn't want him reappointed. He may be well connected but I don't think it will help him now. Time for him to turn out the lights and hand over the keys.
