Post Bobhouses

Looking at the Alton Cam, one see's that all the bobhouses have gone home until next winter. It must be close to or is the time that they need to be removed. I feel bad for those who enjoy that sport as it took so long for the ice it really cut down the season. Yesterday and today were great days to be out in the sun and warmth.

We drove through Alton Bay this morning and noticed that there was only one bobhouse left on the ice ... all the rest had been removed.

Default Alton Bay

Here is a couple of pictures taken at the boat launch at Alton Bay on 3-11-07:

A lot of water on the ice, some from the warm temps, and some left over from the rain last night.

This picture is of the area in the foreground of the above picture, and right below the arrow is a hole a couple of inches in diameter, and you could actually see the water flowing in and out of the hole (like current). Strange.

Suffice it to say, with some warm weather, the edges will start to get unsafe really quickly, so a word to the wise...

I think you only have to watch out for the active ones. You know, the ones with trip-ups.

Default Hard Times for Bob?

First Bob put up all these house on the lake and now someone is hauling them away. Has Bob fallen on hard times and is unable to pay taxes on all of his waterfront....ah....island.....ah...floating property or is he just tired on dodging airplanes landing on the ice?
Inquiring minds want to know

There is a nasty rumor going around that they are about to pay for a registration and numbers to stick on their door that is going to cost $60 and then on top of that they will have to purchase and stick on the door a new saftey sticker at the cost of $20 of which the sticky part of the label doesn't hold.

Default Emergency Flotation Device

How about a device like an airbag around the bottom so that if the ice breaks it will deploy and the house will the be a true "bob" house

So long as it's < 12' LOA. Otherwise it'll need 3" numbers and a boat registration sticker !

Thats how they trap polar bears...You put a ring of peas around the hole and when the bears come to take a pea you kick them in the ice hole...or so I have been told.

Just watch out for those holes this summer when boating!

Default ice wholes

I always wondered why I had trouble solom sking, now I know its those darn Ice Fisherman leaving holes in the ice.

Now I read a comment someplace on here about CT not being part of New England. Well let me tell you it has been snowing here all day, and I bet we got about 5" of snow already in South East CT. and I got one thing to say about Red Sox. Lets see them play the same all thru the season. This winning the early seasons games and then giving them away thats for the birds.
