Default Elevation, elevation, elevation

Elevation has been the key to snowfall since late February. Elevations from 1500 feet and up have been getting mostly snow from all the recent storms. Tuckerman's is loaded with snow. The AMC backcountry conditions report has some very sizeable snow depths reported from their manned backcountry locations. This morning they are reporting 68 inches at Carter Notch Hut, 18 inches at Pinkham Notch, 20 inches in Crawford Notch (rt. 302,) 70 inches at the caretaker cabin in Tuckerman Ravine, and in our own backyard (Alexandria NH) there is 12 inches on the ground at the Cardigan Lodge, elevation 1,392 feet.
