Moving to the area

Greetings To All,
My wife and I and teen are thinking of moving to the area within the year. For several years we have been coming to the Lake Region and we love it. We have checked it out in both summer and winter, so we know what were in for reguarding the snow. Were from outside the state, Long Island, NY to be exact. We work in NYC and soon were eligible to retire. N.H. seems to be more affordable. Our current property tax on L.I. are insane!!
Any how, Were not sure which area to focus on. We like Merideth and Wolfesboro as well, but were not sure of other places. We are in our late 40's and would like to be around other families, but not too close and not too isolated. We want to be in an area with resonable property taxes. Ten or fifteen minutes to the big lake would be great as well. We welcome any opinion. Thanks
