As recently as last year, a long-running ad in The Granite State News was seeking RED PINE for carpentry, and the Lakes Region buyer was paying for same.

Call Wolfeboro Editor Thomas Beeler (603) 569-3126, or ask to check his office-kept bound archive volumes—dating from 1873. (!)

As a species, Red Pine is in decline, and can be identified by three needles (think R-E-D) in each cluster of needles. White Pine can be identified by five needles (think W-H-I-T-E) in each cluster of needles. The bark of Red Pine trees is coarser than White Pine and appears reddish in color.

From a distance, its foliage appears darker than White Pine.
