It's long-gone now, but a short drive from the lake would bring you to a well-traveled two-lane road, where travelers would be navigating a curve and find a huge tree growing in the middle of the road.
(Well, it looked huge when I first saw it). Like many roads north of Melvin Village proper, the roadway may have not been paved when I first saw it. The tree made the curve somewhat more difficult to navigate as one drove towards the lake.Melvin Village probably had the last of "quaint" lake-area sightings, and I'm wondering do I remember a post card featuring that tree? Also, about what year did the Board decide that the tree may have posed a hazard to automobiles? ![]() .
