12/2 wire has a total of 3 conductors and is used in 110 volt applications. It has 3 conductors…black is hot, white is neutral and the bare conductor is ground.
12/3 wire has 4 conductors and is most commonly used in 220 volt applications. It has 4 conductors… both black and red are hot, white is neutral and the bare conductor is ground. If you are plugging into the 110 volt outlet on generator you should use 12/2 cords. Good luck! |
