Bullwinkle's Bar & Grill
We finally took a trip up to Ashland to check out Carol Perl's Bullwinkle's Bar & Grill (on Main St) last night, and I am still stuffed. Those ribs!! If you ever frequented The Broken Antler or have stopped in to The Antler in Meredith, the menu at Bullwinkles will be familiar to you. Lots to choose from and great prices. The building she bought used to host 'some dive bar' according to my husband, but there's nothing dive about it. Beautiful brick, such a pretty view of the water; my teen fell in love and decided that's where we're having her birthday dinner in a couple of weeks.
We started with a huge plate of Sandwich Notch-O's, which had nice, fresh tomatoes, onions, and green peppers on it. Three of us were splitting it and couldn't finish if that's any indication of the size. If you have kids, there are several options for the little ones - mine happily munched on chicken fingers and they have coloring books and crayons right at the front desk to keep them entertained if need be. For entrees my teen had a terriyaki steak that was done perfectly medium rare, and my husband and I each had a full rack of ribs that were delicious and fell right off the bone. I ordered a full rack thinking I'd take half home for lunch today. Somehow, there wasn't anything to take home. Having been a fan of Carol's ribs for a long time now, I still can't figure out if it's the meat or the sauce that makes them. I think I'll have to continue eating them until I can decide for sure. The fries, baked potatoes and cole slaw that accompanied our meals were all excellent. Who had room for veggies? I don't need no stinking veggies! My teen declared her veggie medley delicious, so you'll have to take her word on that. Our server was lovely, attentive, and got everything perfect including making sure those chicken fingers got there ASAP to keep my 6yo content. I don't know why I waited so long to get up there (maybe my insane work schedule, 2 kids, too much life had something to do with it!) - such a pretty and quick drive, such a beautiful old building, and ribs to die for. Make the trip to Ashland, I know I plan on pointing us in that direction more often now that summer is coming to an end. |
