Here is a picture taken on my father's boot camp graduation day in 1943. I wonder what he would have thought about his getting through three wars at the time that picture was being taken. He fought in WWII, Korea, And two tours of Vietnam. Recently passed from cancer.
![]() Thank you to all the Veterans, living and gone before us. Especially my Dad! |

Just got back from supper at one of my usual restaurants. Waitress came over and asked if I was a vet. I said "Yes, why?" She said "a gentleman at the bar would like to buy you a drink." What a nice guy. I'd just like to thank ALL the people who appreciate our service.

My thanks to all of our veterans, those noted above, and those serving right now on the front lines in Iraq and Afghanistan -- for preserving the freedoms we all enjoy and most often take for granted.
If you have the opportunity I encourage you all to visit http://peasegreeters.org/ to find and greet a flight of departing or returning warfighters through Pease Airport in Portsmouth, NH. It will give you a perspective and experience that you will not forget as you stand side by side with Veterans from WWII through today in support of our servicemen and women. The current flight schedule is as follows: Schedule Update - Flight Added Thursday, Nov., 20th, has been added to the schedule. This, the 311th flight, is scheduled to arrive at 1:00 AM and is going overseas. Having just left a Manchester funeral home to arrange to have my Dad laid to rest tomorrow..I was so pleased to see this thread & to honor him and all Veterans...
He was a proud WWII veteran who at the age of 18 landed on Normandy shores so that you & I are free... in his late years we listened over & over to the same story and listened once again as he repeated it to the next ear that listened...I will miss hearing that story now.. & I pray you do be patient & listen to all vets & their tales as they are truly hero's... My Dad, My hero, will be laid to rest with full military honors in the morning & I will make sure to Thank them tomorrow. The following day the 13th would have been his 85th birthday. Happy Birthday Dad.& Thank you. My Proud Veteran Dad is Ralph Holt. |

Please accept my condolences.
I attended the Moultonborough Central School's Veteran's Day Ceremony to honor vets. My daughter had asked both of her grandfathers to attend. What a nice honor to these veterans- I spoke with a WW2 vet, a pilot named Eddie, great guy. I thank all vets, young and old, for your service to our great country. |

Sure can't say it any better than the previous posts here...but mine and all my family's thanks! I have two grandsons--one Army;one Air Force--currently serving, and I so appreciate the words of support, as do all of us...those with loved ones in harm's way, and all loyal Americans. Thanks to all Veterans!

To Jack1706, Sorry for your lost and a big thank you to your father for his service. But, do not worry, that story will never go away. My grandfather passed a year and a half ago, I still think about his stories of when he served in WWII in the CBI theater as a Batallion Runner. They are alive with you now and it is your chance to pass those stories on to your children and family members. Those stories along with my grandmothers, (his wife) cousins husband Renee Gagnon will never be forgotten. I did not even know of the relation until I read the book Flags of Our Fathers and was talking about it with my grandmother.

Please accept our condolences on your father' passing. He sounds like the motivation that Tom Brokaw used for the phrase "The Greatest Generation". Thank you Mr Holt. We truly appreciate your service. |

My Dad was a bomber pilot in WW2, My uncle was wounded on Iwo Jima, My Grandfather was artillery in the Yankee Division in WWI as well as a Major recuiting in WW2, and my other Grandfather was in the trenches in France in WWI. My GGGrandfather was a Sergeant in the Union Army during the Civil War!
I lost my Dad this year but he's at peace now with the love of his life, my Mom. I am eternally grateful to these, my ancestors and family, and all other veterans for the defense of our freedom! AW |

It brought tears to my eyes when they blew Taps for my Uncle, a bombardier in WW2 in the Pacific. My dad is soon to be 87, he was a P51 Mustang pilot flying out of England to parts unknown. It was only in recent years that he told us any stories of the war. They all worked their arses off for this country.
Elly, I feel for you. VN was a different time, a bad time, bad circumstances. But as always, paid for either way by the armed forces. I trust today people have a better understanding of the vast differences between politics and the soldier's missions. It seems they do, and I hope so. Welcome back ![]() |
