View From Lincoln Park in Gilford

It was a beautiful day today. I stopped at Lincoln Park and took these 3 shots of the view with a snow capped Mount Washington in the background. It's a great spot to stop, take in the beautiful view and just relax.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhsh !

You've discovered a secret gem in Gilford, 'Lincoln Park'. This park is not very well known, even by Gilford locals. It's my own little private piece of heaven, with spectacular million dollar views !

I go there often when I need a little peace, quite, and solitude. Nice place to have a coffee or lunch, read a book, and take in the landscape.
Usually the park is empty, even during the summer months.

Got all the Christmas lights up though....

So OK I give. Where is Lincoln Park in Gilford and how can you see MT Washington from Gilford? I can't even see it from Moultonborough and I am way north from Gilford.

OK So I found it. I simply drew a line on my map from the Mt Washington summit to the shore in Gilford directly over Round Island....Must be on Belknap point road somewhere?
Now I am going to tell all my friends about it.....

My husband was taking a look around the Forum this AM and called me right in to see this. He'd identified Round Island right away...and the MOST spectacular part (of an over-all excellent picture!) is Mt. Washington. You and your camera are magic...all the way!! Actually all the pics are wonderful...just that the last one is REALLY great!

We only realized where Lincoln Park is in the last couple of years, when we have stayed at the Belknap Point Motel. Lived up there for almost 30 years ( and my husband 50 years!)and didn't know! One of the reasons we love Belknap Point (which is very close to this) is we get this view.

We had friends come up on this year's blistering hot (not complaining) 4th of July and they too stayed at the Belknap Point Motel. That place sure does have a great view.

No, they were all taken from the hood of my vehicle using a bean bag for support.

Here's a Lincoln Park side note: In August 1992, the single family house immediately to the left of Lincoln Park was up for sale with an asking price of $210,000. Since then, it has undergone a major remodel, new deck, and large top floor addition, plus an extra garage, but the core 1992 house is still visible within the new design.

And of course, it's got that super-duper view out to the summit antennas (thru a powerfull telephoto lens) up top Mt Washington. Down below the summit where the white snow turns to dark no snow; that's the upper half of Tuckerman's Ravine with the Lion's Head ridge to the right that seperates Tuckerman's Ravine from Huntington's Ravine (which is not shown). The lower pointy summit on the left is probably 'Boot's Spur', and that is a real excellent photograph taken on a clear and sunny day.

Tuckerman Ravine faces east, toward Wildcat. Given that the angle of the shot is to a bit east of north from the lake, I would think what we may be seeing is the upper part of the Oakes Gulf, with Mt Monroe above and to the left. The ridge below and to the right of the MtW summit would then be the Boot Spur, and Lion's Head would not be visible. Actually, past Lion's Head (and not visible either) is the long gully called the Raymond Cataract, and past the ridge marking the other side of that gully is the Huntington Ravine.

Any takers on this opinion?

As gf2020 said, you are correct. That fantastic picture is NOT looking toward Tucks. Anyone that has seen Mt. Washington a few times would know that.

Thanks for correcting my error.....it sure looks just like it could be Tuckerman's....but it must be Oakes for the reasons listed.....so Tuckerman's must be the next ravine to the north. The presidentials have maybe eight different ravines encircling the range including: King's, Great Gulf, Huntington's, Tuckerman's, Oakes, Dry River, Ammonusic ....and some others?....off the top of my head....

Well...instead of complaining about it on this forum why don't you go climb the mountain and put up a big sign that says "Oakes Gulf- not to be confused with Tuckerman's Ravine" because the two do look very similar as seen thru a telephoto lens.
