Not so fast, Granny. The rock at light #46 is shown on Bizer's chart in its correct position, 240m (780 ft) due east of the northernmost point of Round Island. Duncan Press (nom de plume = Granny) is quick to point out that Bizer's chart does not label it as she does. All the while, suggesting that Bizer has completely overlooked a rock that is a hazard to navigation.

Bizer's name omission is intentional. Even before Bizer's first edition, friends remarked that the commonly-referred-to name was in poor taste so Bizer decided to call it "Light 46", "Rock 46" or, as labeled on Bizer's chart, "FL 46" because FLashing light #46 sits atop this rock. As late as 2003, Bizer could find nothing in print, other than Duncan's map, where this rock had any name at all. Bizer assumes the off-color name that Granny perpetuates was derived from the fact that vandals occasionally paint Rock 46 to look like a female body part.

As for Granny's accusation of errors-and-omissions on Bizer's chart: Physician, heal thyself. The true location of Rock 46 is almost two football fields north of where it is depicted on Granny's map. Use Granny's link to see for yourself.

That's kind of too bad. THat's how history gets changed. As long as I can remember, that has ALWAYS been known as Nipple Rock.

Default When I went to Camp Lawrence

...and that was in the '50's, it was known as Nipple Rock. Local lore, perhaps. We had a trailer in Glendale at that approx time, and people would talk about going out by Nipple rock to look for and watch Loons. Always seemed to be a good place to just hang out and watch the world go by, and look for loons. Still true today.

Anyway, whether it is called Nipple Rock or not, my concern would be if it is shown in the proper location, not whether is named correctly.

Never knew the word "nipple" was a bad word... I thought George Carlin set the record straight on bad words!

"Mammary Papilla Rock" just does not sound right!

Yeah and last time I checked males had nipples too. Apparently Bizer needs to look down his shirt

Political correctness plays a part in the dumbing down of America. No different than how historical facts get sanitized in textbooks for the sake of PC.

I will use my Bizer map to clean another anatomical portion of my body
