Default Keg of beer

I priced out a keg of beer for the weekend of the 4th. At Case & Keg prices it cost less to buy beer by the 30pk as Sam’s club then to buy a keg.
Does anyone know of any other places that sell keg beer in the Laconia area?

Does Shaw's not sell kegs there? I've gotten kegs from Shaw's in southern NH, but not sure about the ones by the lake.

I seem to recall that it wasn't cheaper either, just more convenient.

What were they charging? I just paid $65 for a quarter barrel of Bud down in MA, which worked out to be less than the equivalent amount of cans.

I've yet to find any place in the area where it was cheaper to buy kegs than 30 packs. That wasn't the case just a few years ago...

Kegs are no longer the deal they used to be.
A 1/4 keg holds roughly 83 12 oz beers. At $65, that is 83 cents/beer
A 30 pack is obviously 30 12 oz beers. At around $18, that is 60 cents/beer.

Keg beer generally tastes better though, most keg beer isn't pasteurized, whereas most cans and bottles are.

Can't have a KEG PARTY without a keg!

But it's been a long time since I bothered with a keg.

Check with a distributor. Less markup than a retail outfit.

You might be surprised about that too. I paid $65 for a 1/4 barrel at Parkside in Manchester. Same year I paid $65 for a 1/4 barrel at the distributor in Hooksett.

I remember the days of collecting dollar bills in a hat from party goers and trying to get $30 for a 1/4 barrel, or $55 for a 1/2.

Default Keg is out

After doing the math it just doesn't make sense. Tap rental, ice, more ice.
As mentioned you can get Bud light in 30pkgs for less then the cost of a keg.
I thought it would be a nice change for a family gathering at our place in Maine the W/E of the 4th. Honestly it doesn't make any sense to me why it would cost more, but it is, what it is.

You could tell guests that the 30-pack are "keg seeds" - plant them, and maybe they'll grow...

this is a good one
of course you could always tell your guests that they have to do 12oz curls, with the weight being less every curl they do?

Default Barbs Beer Emporium

Have assorted beer kegs. They may be in Concord, but most folks travel through Concord anyway. Check out this gem at barbsbeeremporium.com

They have about 300 assorted beers in stock. You can mix a rack with assorted beers. Pretty sick!

Default Fyi

I was told that you no can longer rent the tap you have to own or buy one. Apparently it is against the law. That info can from a Maine store and I'm not sure if NH is the same way.
When I called Case & keg they have somebody working there that speaks very broken english so I couldn't understand much of what he said and gave up figuring I'd show up in person.
Sorry but speaking english should be required when working a job that requires you to deal with AMERICAN people on a daily basis.

Default Danger, will robinson!!!

For tose who are not engineers. Do not, Do not throw the empty keg into the fire!!! The laws of physics will come in to play and you will be launched 100 yards from the fire pit to some hole in the woods where the EMTs will say "Oh that again".

Default Measuring Cost or Value?

The quality of keg beer vs. canned beer can't be measured by simply the price. As ITD says, there's an intrinsic value of much, much better taste. And that value is worth much more than the mere $0.05/can, IMO.

And I agree -- don't throw the keg in the fire. Instead, tie a rope to it and offer up "keg rides" across the lake! A barrel of fun, those keg rides. Don't forget to wear your PFD.

Default Empty keg uses

I've success over years of brewing my own beer to store it in a left over keg. Saves lots of bottle washing. I gave it up, because it tasted too good !!!
