On a fly rod a shad will give you a heck of a fight. I'm not sure whether the ones I caught were Hickories or American. The fight reminds me of a baby tarpon, lots of jumps.

I'm ready for them on the Connecticut River around Cromwell. I have a light rod and can't wait.
