On a business trip yesterday I stopped at the Quechee Gorge Village on U.S. Route 4, Quechee, VT. While I was on the Gorge bridge I took these pictures of some custom cars going across it. They must be headed for a car show somewhere north of the bridge. I like the green custom Ford pickup.

That Green 40 Ford PU was built in a garage in Hampstead, NH by a handicapped individual. It sits on a Chevy Dually frame and suspension. The pick up body was narrowed to fit between the dually wheels but they were able to keep the original Ford logo on the tail gate. Unfortunately the man who built it died in a fall on some ice at a local dealership shortly after the truck was finished. His casket was painted the same color as the truck and it was his hearse for his wake and funeral. I know the daughter and the former son-in-law who provided the engine for this work of art.

Back in the Fifties when I was a kid, almost no one that had a rod, ever got it finished. The Paint Job of the Day was what we callled Gray Prime.. or Flat Black. The money went into the engine and drive train..NOT paint.

You didn't want Your car to be labeled "All Show & No Go".

Then again..in those days we had Street Drags. Some of those gray prime street rods could do the Quarter in 11 seconds... right out of Stewarts Drive In on four lane NJ State Route 17.

Then came the '65 427.. 425 HP Corvette..Quarter mile in the Mid Elevens with street tires, and a finished paint job right out of the factory. Just Rememberin'. NB
