Fire In Wolfeboro - DPW Garage

Great photo. Looks like they are also looking to get a couple of new trucks in the mix. Don't pull the equipment away from the building to save it and let the fire trucks get near the place just stand around a watch. Our tax dollars at work. Simply amazing.

I wonder if that garage has a "Waster Oil Fuel Burner" in it.

The white smoke coming out of the building looks like an oil fire.

Those old buildings should have been torn down and replaced many years ago.

I hope no one got hurt in the fire.

I think the trucks are further away from the fire than they look in the picture, Acrossamerica. Rusty, good thing we waited, now we can get insurance money toward a new one. Could the white smoke have come from a plow truck? I didn't hear anyone was hurt, thank goodness.

There is a 2013 Warrant Article to upgrade the Public Works Garage but those particular buildings are not in the article. Back to the drawing board.

As an Old NAVY Veteran ....who has attended The Navy Fire Fighting School..An OIL fire is BLACK Smoke. Just sayin. NB

Almost everything these days burns heavy black smoke because most of all things these day are plastic or made with petroleum somewhere along the way.
The picture looks like the people are doing the right thing by standing back and waiting for the engines and ladder to arrive. Acrossamerica has the typical arrogant attitude we as firefighters come across on the job. We ignor it and people like acrossamerica.
My suspicion is the there was some type of equipment burning in the garage with moderate fire extension to the exposure buildings. Sometimes block heaters in diesel equipment can cause engine fires, i have already seen a few this year. Hope nobody was hurt and the damaged equipment can be replaced or repaired.

Wow, sorry I stepped on so many toes with simply making an observation based on what I viewed from an excellent photo. I guess from the comments made by others that fire volunteers are not permitted to move equipment away from a burning building. I never knew that but then maybe the power truck drivers took the keys home with them if they are not regular DPW trucks. I am new to this site but am learning very fast that one NEVER should say anything bad about anything to do with anything in the lakes region or there will be folks that have problems with the observations.

You're welcome, RLW and thanks for your greeting. The camera's perspective makes the electric department trucks appear much closer to the fire than they actually are, just as tis has already pointed out.

There's plenty of criticism here about all manner of things in the Lakes Region but many of us are justifiably protective about those who risk their lives to protect us, and we therefore don't look kindly on cheap shots at volunteer firemen by posters who don't know what they're talking about.

If you actually "look" at the picture you can see that the power company trucks are across the street from the fire. The building appears to be located at a Y shaped intersection. The power company workers are the ones standing in the photo with their yellow hardhats on. Other than the FD Command vehicle it doesn't appear (to me) that the FD has arrived on scene at the time of the photo.
My comment earlier is directed at your implication that the FD (or whoever) would purposely leave vehicles in harms way to get them replaced as collateral damage. "Our tax dollars at work". Please...spare me...about half of the Wolfeboro FD is Call/Volunteer.

I didn't take offense, Acrossamerica, just pointed out that that is a very big parking lot with two buildings and the electric trucks are closer to the other building than the one one fire.

Also, although Wolfeboro does have volunteer firemen, they have quite a few professional firefighters-I can't remember the number but it is 10 or 20. Someone can probably help me out here.

I heard the fire started in one of the plow trucks.

P.S. - My father was a volunteer fireman back in the day, and even when we were vacationing in Gilford, if a fire truck went by, he'd hop in the car to chase it. We kids loved to tag along, much to the dismay of our mother. I think that connection with my father keeps me interested in fires, their cause, and their outcome.

WOLFEBORO, N.H. —Wolfeboro fire officials said a fire that broke out Tuesday inside the town's Highway Department garage destroyed a plow truck and damaged the garage.
The fire was reported just after one p.m. at the garage on Pine Hill Road. Officials said no one was injured.

Officials believe the fire may have been started by an electrical problem with the plow truck. While the fire appears to be accidental, officials said the Wolfeboro Fire Department and the state fire marshal's office are investigating.

I wasn't guessing at it and I didn't say they didn't have Full Time FFs. I looked it up before I posted it. They have 9 FT FF and 9 Call/Volunteer FF, plus the Command Staff.
