you can buy them at the sunoco near the racetrack on 106.during the NASCAR races people at the track light them off, there are 100's!
you would think they would be a fire hazard, but apparently they go out before they hit the ground. |

Perfect evening on the lake, made even better by a sky lantern. Thanks!

I caught one floating in the water by Governors Island. I think the wire they use is hazardous to the loon and fish?
Your opinion?

We had a neighbor who sent up many of them a few weekends ago. At first, I was worried about the fire hazard. But they do rise quickly, and continue rising until all the "fuel" (waxed paper as I understand it) is burned out.
I was told that they are made of all biodegradable materials. They do look very pretty against a post-sunset sky. |

With the complete lack rain lately I hope one doesn't malfunction. We sure don't need what is going on out west. Up in Suissevale I worry about all the people lighting of fireworks as well.

My Brother-in-law launched some of these last seasons in Maine. I asked about the aspect of bio-degradability. It seems that some of these are 100% compliant (no wire) and some are not.
They look really nice going up but best to find a vendor/model that has no wire as well as a calm night as they don’t like a breeze getting off the ground. |

We saw about 10 of them rising Sunday night on Paugus Bay. I thought the same thing about the fire hazard, my daughter wanted to know if something happened to Repunzel (kid movie reference).
