I typically spec 5 MP cameras for most exterior locations. We have used some Aviglon 29MP cameras at some airports.

Where's Waldo?

Interesting image - it appears to have some post processing done though as some of the people appear to suddenly turn towards the camera as if it were a previous frame.

Well I just drove by it on the way home. My detector goes off about 100 feet from the box. So I stopped and the detector was at full signal display sitting right next to it. So it is certainly the box. That box is temporary and new with padlocks on it. Maybe a traffic counter of some sort as I did not see a lens or eye on it anywhere. So here a couple pics of it. I am curious as to what it is though.

Hmmmmm.......

Collects traffic data using RADAR (volume, speed, etc). It's an alternative to the run-over data collection method.

So are you saying it is really a speed trap? And will you get a ticket if you are going too fast, just like with the red light cameras? If so, all I can say is, God this is scary. As someone said, big brother is watching you!! When is all this going to stop????? Please tell me it isn't so.

Apparently, no camera. Just a new way to collect data. It holds the speed, direction and mostly counts cars. Better than a hose across the road.

So the next question I guess would be why in that location? That is a long straight with a passing zone in it. But no homes or businesses there.

LEO here. That's called a "Speed Spy". It is recording the speed of vehicles and will probably be removed within two weeks of its placement. It helps law enforcement establish a base line of what speeds vehicles are actually traveling at any given location so when complaints come in that all vehicles are speeding, they have the documentation to confirm or dispute the allegation. Over and out.

They had the same box near the PD, where it slows to 30, early this summer, then moved it to near the Center Harbor Diner, they were both in place for 3-4 weeks.

Can't imagine there won't be one on the neck, probably surveying for the highest revenue spot for a trap.

I'm also getting a new hit between Buckeys and 109/old 109, telephone poles are obscured by trees, probably the same thing.

SO: I wonder if this device can detect your Cell Phone signal as you drive by...kinda like "Over The Road" EZPass... and ID you that way..??? Just wonderin NB

PS: A further thought: If you are speeding, the "Box" could send you a Text Speeding Ticket instantly. Excellent.

Default Municipal money

Many cities and towns are conntracting with private companies to install red light cameras. The general agreement is for the community to invest nothing and the camera company will photograph violators and administer all aspects of the program and mail the city or town a monthly check.

I know that in some towns the ticket you get offers a discount, pay by mail with no points on your license program, or a higher fine amount and points if you choose to go to court and contest the ticket. It seems like it is all about revenue generation and has very little to do with public safety.

In Florida they have the red light cameras and I heard that almost everyone who takes it to court wins. I don't remember all the details but the cities that installed them are losing money on them. THey are not working out as the cities hoped. I am sure you can google it if you want details. I should have said on stop lights. I never heard of them before this for speed.

Do the speed limit (or close to it) and there's no need to worry about it.

Could be a testing site for a future speed camera, could be a traffic counter for road repair projection purposes, could be lots of things. But, in its current deployment it does not appear to be able to capture any identifiable data, just vehicle counts.

That's too funny, I found him under the larger tree center left in the image, zoomed in of course. back to the camera.

Default traffic study

Seems to me like this was most likely installed for a traffic study. I would speculate it is done in conjunction with a proposed development, and what impact that would have on current traffic conditions

speed traps generally have multiple cameras so that they can get multiple shots including from the rear as soon states only have one license plate and if so it is in the back. they usually will only send a ticket is they have a good clear facial picture. We have them in AZ and there is always a sign a few feet before saying photo enforcement zone. This certainly doesn't look like a speed trap a camera to me
