Default Almost done

Usually try to do Thanksgiving on the island but not this year. Will be up for a day in a couple weeks to load in the rest of the kerosene for the winter and get the ice eaters turned on. Time to start watching the water temps....

Default Be careful

Just food for thought, be careful posting when closing up your properties, it is an open invitation to crooks knowing no one will be home.

Your point is a good one in general. However, I am fairly certain that even the stupidest theives know that there is no one on Mink Island at this time of year.

Default Security Force

I feed the deer all summer and fall. In exchange, they will charge at anyone who's snooping around when I'm not out there...I think! Cheap enough...few bucks!

Looking through my Pentax 10x50 St Vincent dePaul $15.00 binoculars, (regular price at a store:$150) I actually have a straight ahead view of Dolly Isl, Penny(s) Isl, south end of Bear Isl, Mark Isl, plus I look straight down between Mark and Timber to Mink Isl. Seems like a likely m.o. would be to access these places from the Cattle Landing parking lot over the ice except for the ice eaters and the open water near the new town dock.....but one never knows what's up with the crazy stupidity of someone doing b & e's.

I suppose if I really see something looking suspicious, I'll phone it in to the Meredith Police non-911 local phone number, for non-911 items, and chit-chat it with the dispatcher lady who is an unbelievable hot babe at the Meredith P.D. there who sits behind the bullet proof glass at the entrance desk!

... steal yo tv & pawn it!

If I see someone with a 55" wide screen tied on to their snowmobile or on their boat.....that could possibly be considered suspicious activity. While the new wide screens are expensive, they are also light weight: one can easily pick up a 42" wide screen and walk away with it. Totally not an easy thing to do with the old fat tv's of the 1990's and the 2000's; those big old tv's are very bulky and heavy, and can be purchased at Goodwill in Laconia for less than five dollars.

How to burglar-proof your tv?

Maybe you want to leave the new wide screen at your year-round place and go get a Goodwill-Laconia old style tv, plus it may have the right look for a seasonal cottage.

If a burglar looks through your living room window from the outside, and sees you have one of those old style tv's, it may just be the one item that tells hims there is probably nothing much of value inside to bother with......and he'll go visit a neighbor's house instead of yours.

Least of your worries is that someone will be stealing an old style tv; too heavy, and totally worthless down at the pawnshops or on craigslist.

Default Break ins.

Always a risk in the off-season. Fair to say that most unbridged island properties are uninhabited this time of the year and lake activity is essentially nil. Even Larry, Daryl and Daryl know that. Winter break-ins are more common than Fall ones. More small time thieves seem to own ATVs and Snowmobiles than boats....

"I'm Larry and this is my brother Daryl and my other brother Daryl"

One of my favorite TV lines of all times.
