Too bad Lakeport is about the only "port" on the lake without public docking. Seems like a job for the Chamber of Commerce.

Laconia actually voted on a public access back in the 50's and the City never follow through. Seems like there was no statute of limitation and a handful of residents have ask for a public dock. So far, no action.

In the 60's ('61-'62) I wasn't old enough for a driver;'s license, so I used to take our boat to Lakeport and tie up at the public dock just north of Irwin Marine and walk to Morrill Street where I took music lessons in the summer. I recall seeing the Sceptre tied up there in the 50's and hearing that it belonged to a troop of Sea Scouts.
Anyway the dock was not maintained and was little used by the public. Eventually the City sold it (long term lease?) and the adjacent land to Irwin Marine. Last edited by Descant; 04-20-2014 at 12:22 PM. Reason: typo |
